Sunday Mornings in the Park
By Kareem Ali
Sunday mornings in the park
They crowd the final bench,
Out Where columns of porcelain
Statues used to be.
Troll
by Sunset
As the pain drips through my soul
I question this reality I love
Caught between consequences and dreams
Waiting and wondering what it will take to become whole
Are these soggy feet just a manifestation
Or do the gods hate me with a passion
Going insane now I’ve lost control
Spiraling down a path of destruction
Caught between what is, was and will be
I push away those I love with the 10 ft. pole
It’s just a defense mechanism learned over time
Allowing me to vent through shyness
Another crazy hippy on a roll
Strobing through life spreading magic
However so many think I am just a dick
What if I’m right and I don’t have a soul
Just an empty shell of what was
I like to believe I can heal my brain damage
But life is expensive, 1 can’t afford this toll
So I keep moving, drifting spot to spot
Wondering will I ever control all these thoughts
Or am I doomed to forever be a troll.
Between games of chess and checkers
They manufacture time
To oogle older women,
The ones passing by
Soaking in an elixir of wrinkles
And middle age.
Yet these gentlemen
Still fan the smoldering flames of life
Of forgotten student days,
Reminiscent of unlit embers
And uncaught fish.
Their depleted lives are reluctantly
Slipping into a final nectar
A final glimmer of smoke
In the rear view mirror,
Yet they pray hopefully,
WillfuUy,
For things that are,
And things that are n o t

until you have been
to the desert
in the middle of a drought
you can n o t...
begin
to say
you appreciate water....
that is how you
make
my heart feel
like the
ground
as it
greedily gulps
up
every single drop
of rain
the sky
has to spare
