Pride
by Paula Ramirez
Woman to woman
Man to man
Love is love
It goes hand in hand
Judgement and hate
Because you think straight
That’s not the only way to get through the golden gate
Untitled
Dogs
By Lorry Clark
By Ron Sanford
You spit on me and call me bum
I was once like you
Fancy cars and fancy clothes
I use to have that too.
My hours got cut to 25
When Obama came through,
My boss said “Son, I love ya
But still no health care for you.”
I tried to find a second job
But still the rent was due
Now I sleep on the streets.
A joy I thought I would never see.
I give money to other homeless folks
Even though I am in poverty.
But I look at them as people
Who have it a lot worse than me.
Helping each other survive through life
Isn’t that what Jesus wanted to see?
Selling papers on the streets
Is this what my life has come to be?
Finding myself praying
God please take me while I am asleep.
But I keep on pushing
No matter what’s in front of me.
Battered, bruised, and broken,
Even PTSD .
So I ’ll keep moving forward,
No matter what you think of me.
But there is one thing I did learn
And it fills my heart with glee:
Take a good look in the mirror, friend
You are nothing like me.
Fighting for the right
And taking a stand,
That every love commitment
Deserves a wedding band
Gay Pride,
Put hate and ignorance aside!
What Would It Look
Like If...
By Joanna Nordess
Imagine the world you want to live in.
Then create it.
But don’t hide it.
Put it on display for everyone to see
When the black clouds roll away.
Put the rainbow on display.
Existing, there to show the way.
But don’t wait until tomorrow.
Do it today.
Hell thrives on delay.
So speak now if you’ve got something to say.
If you’ve seen a glimpse,
You know th a t Heaven isn’t far away.
Dogs begging for change
We see it in their eyes
Panhandling
Freely out in the street.
Been homeless so long
I’m just used to it
Freewheeling
Manumission awaits.
People everyday
Join in our growing ranks
Drug dealing
Becomes second nature.
I just need to rest
And go at my pace
Silently
Biding away the time.
Repping With The
‘Roots’
By Marlon Crump
Smile with a light. Stand.
Frown with darkness. Start walking.
Hand and heart for you.
Stack of Roots on arm says hi.
Eyes forward, tongue sung: I am here!
