Wendell Phillips

A Letter to All
As the husk ot summer s a c tiv itie s fa lls about
autumn's hustinq here are three things to be done
First, register to vote Several crucial issues
are to be decided at the ballot bo* this fa ll, not
tne least of which is the make-up of our county
governing board Readers of the Upper l eft Edge
would do w ell to protect their interest in
progressive and open government hy exercising
their obligations to the commonweal if you
don t vote, you don t get to whine later
Second, once you ve registered to vote you d
better use that power No excuses Get that
absentee ballot if you aren't in town, or are out
of state, or o ff the planet No excuses ’ Uh, l
forgot' is only good for crustaceans reacting to
lit t le more than changing tidal stim ulus No
excuses Get to your polling place on election
day
This brings us to the third point, and the crux
of this le tte r When you vote, do so for
substance, open process and deliberate balance
This means do your homework before entering the
polling booth
And, here is your firs t homework assignment
