Native Americans distinguished seasons
and months of the year by assigning them
names correlated to natural events in the
Great Cycle ’ the Month of the Shedding
Pony," "the Time of the Long Grass,' and
the Time for Drying Salmon'

their obligations to the commonweal if you
don t vote, you don t get to whine later

better use that power No excuses Get that
absentee ballot if you aren't in town, or are out
of state, or o ff the planet No excuses ’ Uh, l
forgot' is only good for crustaceans reacting to
lit t le more than changing tidal stim ulus No
excuses Get to your polling place on election
day
This brings us to the third point, and the crux
of this le tte r When you vote, do so for
substance, open process and deliberate balance
