Columbia Gorge News www.columbiagorgenews.com Wednesday, May 19, 2021 B5 Quilts featured at Discovery Center THE DALLES — An exhibition of quilt-based artworks is open through May 31 at the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center & Museum. This exhibit features 48 works by members of Beyond the Block, a chapter of the Columbia River Gorge Quilters’ Guild. This collection of “Gorge Impressions’’ celebrates the sights and emotions experienced by those living along the Columbia River. Impressionistic and abstract artworks depict iconic images of sunsets on the water, rugged cliffs, water- falls, and petroglyphs, and capture everything from the terror of forest fire to the joy of sweeping meadows of wildflowers, according to a press release. Kathleen Roulet, a featured artist and organizer of Beyond the Block, said, “It’s by far the largest Gorge show we’ve exhibited. There is a lot in this show that no one has seen before.” “Coloring the Gorge: Wild Lupine” and “Mosier Plateau Vista,” both by Kathleen Roulet, are two of 48 quilts featured at the Discovery Center’s “Gorge Impressions” exhibit through May 31.
