Keeping Safe During Fire Season Get Ready for Wildfire Season 1. Prepare your property and home to be fire safe and create a defensible space against wildfire Keep all grasses and weeds cut short. Trim lower branches of trees to remove ladder fuels. Eradicate berry vines. Buck Brush and Scotch Broom. Trim back trees that overhang the house and other structures. Keep gutters and roofs clean. Remove all piles of cuttings, leaves, etc. before fire season. Obey all fire restrictions 2. Sign up for Jackson County Citizen Alerts at www iacksoncoutity.org/alert 3. Prepare a kit of necessities for an emergency evacuation that you can just grab and put in car. Discuss with family how you will meet up and where you will go. During Fire Season 1. Be extremely careful with fireworks on the 4lh of July. Use only fireworks that are legal in Oregon, stage them in an area without lots of fuel around, e.g., driveway or road. Have hose or other water source close by. 2. Be aware of the progress of wild fires around you.
