June 18, 2018 Dear Parents and Community Members, C ongratulations to o u r students and sta ff fo r co m p le tin g a n o th e r successful year o f teaching and learning! A s I w a tch e d o u r seniors graduate e a rlie r th is m o n th I th o u g h t a b o u t th e tre m e n d ou s in ve stm e n t so m any people had m ade in th e lives o f these young adults and th e things w e learn as w e w o rk to help parents raise and educate th e ir ch ildre n to a d u lth o o d . W e are already looking fo rw a rd to th e com ing school year w hich w ill bring a d d ition a l resources and su p p o rt fo r th e success o f o u r stu d e n ts and w a n t to share som e responses to questions you m ay have a b o ut th e com ing 2018-19 school year. QI: We have enjoyed having smaller class sizes for our student at Butte Falls Charter School. Will class sizes grow this next year? A : T his past year w e added a te a ch e r a t th e e le m e n ta ry cam pus in a n ticipa tio n o f e n rollm e n t g row th ; th is next year w e w ill add tw o m ore teachers. T his w ill help us keep o u r class sizes m uch sm aller than state averages and provide a te a ch e r fo r each grade level. T his also allow s us to add back o u r m usic program fo r all o f o u r e le m e n ta ry students. W e w ill also sh ift o u r 7 th grade classroom back to the e le m e n ta ry cam pus. O ur secondary cam pus w ill serve grades 8-12. O ur goal is to cap o u r overall e n ro llm e n t a t a b o u t 275 to 300 students w h ich w o u ld m ake o u r class size average a b o u t 23, (considerably b e lo w th e state average). Q2: Are there any other new teachers for next year? A : W e have hired th e fo llo w in g teachers fo r 2018-19. E lem entary C am pus: T rina M eyer, 4 th G rade. W e are still in te rvie w in g fo r th e new 7 th grade position S econdary C am pus: N atalie W ilson, S cience (replacing S teve K ern); C y C arrigan, S ocial S tudies; and Jenie S koy, E nglish/Language A rts (replacing M a ry C asey). W e are still in terview in g fo r our H ealth/P E p o sitio n (replacing Joel N ye). W e plan to update th e sta ffin g lists on July 1 on o u r D istrict w e b site to include o u r new sta ff m em bers. Q3: Are there any other staffing changes? A : W e have openings fo r E ducational A ssistants. W e are alw ays re cru itin g fo r substitutes fo r o u r su p p o rt positions. T hese include E ducational A ssistants, C am pus M o n ito rs, C ustodians, S pecial E ducation A ssistants, and B us D rivers. If you are in te re ste d in any o f these, contact us. Q4: You shared a lot with parents this year about safety. Are you making any additional safety improvements? A : T his su m m e r and fa ll w e w ill be upgrading fencing and security fo r o u r cam puses. W e are using som e o f o u r reserves to fu n d these upgrades. T he C ity o f B utte Falls is h irin g a police o ffice r and w e are helping fu n d th a t position. T he o ffice r w ill be in and around o u r schools during th e school day to build stu d e n t aw areness a b o u t public safety. O ur secondary cam pus seism ic re trofit w ill be com pleted m id-sum m er.
