C o m m u n it y S e r v ic e a t B u t t e F a lls C h a r t e r S c h o o l D e f in it io n : C om m unity service is any helpful task done for the school or others (not fam ily), that a student does not get paid or receive a letter for. *Exceptions can be m ade for special fam ily circum stances. Talk to your adviser. Sum m er activities can count for the next school year. G rade 7-8 = 2 4 hours per year (6 hours/9-w eeks) R e q u ir e m e n t s : onmlkjihgfedcbaZYXWVUTSRQPONMLKJIHGFEDCBA G rades 9-10 = 3 6 hours per year (9hours/9-w eeks) G rades 11-12 = 3 6 hours per year (w here18 of them should be in an area of career interest.) W h y d o C o m m u n it y S e r v ic e ? 1. It returns to the com m unity, for the support it gives the students and the school. 2. It helps build com m unity, self-esteem , practical skills and sense of civic responsibility. It can also count as a C R LE or EA project if extensive enough. 3. hgfedcbaZYXWVUTSRQPONMLKJIHGFEDCBA 4. It provides additional hours necessary for student to receive 1/2 credit for Focus (H S only) 5. M ore and m ore scholarships have a com m unity service com ponent. Som e are based solely on com m unity service. 6. It is used to determ ine academ ic letters. A d d itio n a l B o n u s : If a student continues docum enting their hours, they can receive a Presidential Volunteer Service Aw ard for com m unity service. The follow ing hours m ust be docum ented by the end of the 3 rd 9-w eeks. O ver 14 years old = 100 hours Ages 5-14 = 50 hours
