District Speech Tournament
was a Success! By Marcia Warren
Butte Falls High School hosted the 2003
OSAA District Speech Tournament. The
winners competed at the State Tournament
held in Eugene at the University of Oregon,
April 24th- 26th. There were four high schools
at the local competition: Eagle Point, Grants
Pass, North Valley, and Butte Falls. There
were 67 students, 33 judges and 4 coaches
and 2 assistant coaches attending the
tournament. The Butte Falls Community,
Butte Falls Elementary and High School
teachers and staff all donated the day to help
make the tournament a success. Wendy Earl
provided all of the food, snacks and drinks for
the judges and made pizzas for the
participants. The spring snow and the Butte
Falls Highway were not a deterrent to the
traveling teams. The students that attended
State from Butte Falls included: Melody
Carlisle- Humorous; Britani Johnston-
Serious; Jamee McIntyre- Poetry; and Victoria
Lawrence and Bonnie Biando- Student
Congress. Britani Johnston and Jamee
McIntyre became Semi-finalist. Butte Falls
High School placed 5th in the State in 3A/2A
and 1 A schools. The school would like to
thank the following people who contributed

certificates for hospitals (before the
president goes anywhere the medical staff
go to check out the town, hospital and
even pick the bed where the president
would be taken if he would have an
emergency while there). She has a variety
of jobs and never knows what to expect
each day. She looks forward to it all.
Great Job, Lilian and oh yeah, hope you

There is officially a new dog ordinance that is now in
effect which is much stricter than the last. Can you
really afford to pay a fine of $250 for not keeping
