Judge Daniel Harris has made an
im p o r ta n t ruling on the Safety Seat for
c h ild re n . Under the standard set forth
in OKS 8 1 1 .2 1 0 (2 )(b ), requires a person
at least four years of age to be

“Properly Secured” with a safety belt or
safety harness. The Oregon Statute
refers to OKS 815.055, where reference
is made to the standard established by
the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle
Safety Act and accompanying

regulations. These regulations

system. Children ages 4-8, weighing 40=
80 pds need to ride in booster seats,
w h ic h protect them from spinal and
head injuries. Booster seats are
designed to allow the shoulder harness
to be engaged at the proper place on
the child’s torso. Children ©ver the age
of 8 should always wear the lap and
shoulder belt.
