A sending off party was held at the home of Sergio Ruiz for Linda Smiley, who left for Job Corps June 6, 1966. The Youth Activity Counsel Association, (teen d u b ), of which Linda was vice president, sponsored the party. Linda is training at the Hunnington, West Virginia, Job Corps center. It is specifically set up for unskilled and . unemployed girls from the age o f 16 to 21 years old. The Women's Job Corps is de signed to help the drop out from school or those unemployed. You might learn to be a typist, office clerk, or secretary, dress maker or beauty operator, practical nurse or sales clerk. You w ill also learn home management and how to speak and write well. Along with the learning is the fun of a recreational and creative arts program. This is a living-in- program — a home away from home. You w ill get room, board, cloth- ing and spending money of $30.00 a month. Also, when you leave, you w ill be given $50.00 for each month of satisfactory service in the Job Corps. If you have a girl friend who might ^benefit from the Job Corps training, you might apply togeth er. If you are interested, contact this office. There is also a program of train ing and employment opportunities available locally, J f this seems more interesting to you. For fur ther information about this part -of the program, contact Community Resources for Young Women at the same address, or telephone 581- 5521. DAY CARE CENTER ENROLLMENT Enrollment of eight of the ten ¡Valley Migrant League day care centers began last Monday. The total number of children enrolled In each day care center .on the first day were: Canby 27, Dayton 67, Forest Grove 86, Independence 98, North Plains 148, Sandy 63, Silver Crest 17, and Woodburn, 111. We hope that if you haven't enrolled your children yet, you w ill do it very soon. "We probably couldn't have a day care program this year if it weren't for the excellent support we have received from many vol unteer organizations." This was a comment from Sam Granato, Direc- tor of children's programs in the VML. Granato said that toys, furniture, and bedding have been donated by many groups. "In addition, he said, "some ladies' groups have made projects of sewing and re pairing toys as part of their church work." Is there any more that can be done? Yes. Granato says that they are in great need of rocking chairs. If you have an old rocking chair that could be donated to the Val ley Migrant League contact your nearest opportunity center.
