This was the comment of one of
the adult day school students. The
certificate that he received last Fri­
day meant that he had attended 8
weeks of the VML special educa­
tion classes in Salem.

their work-in Spoken English, oth­
ers for attending "Reading in High
Gear" or G.E.D. (high school equi­
valency) preparation.
Sarah Hall Goodwin, head of the
VML adult education program,
handed out the certificates.
The classes were not graded. Stu­
dents worked at their own speed,
learning as much as they could each

During these 8 weeks, the stu­
dents
learned
new skills and
gained new confidence.
The teachers said that they have
enjoyed teaching these classes, be­
cause the students really wanted
to learn. Sheila Babb, who taught
Reading in High Gear, said "I have
truly enjoyed working with my
students. I hope the ejasses w ill
continue. They are important."

The course lasted from Janu­
ary 31 to March 25. Now many of
the students want to continue with
VML night classes.
One of the students, who plans
to return in the fall, said, "These
classes are opening doors for us.
I have much to learn; but I have
made a good beginning."

dance this Friday, April 1, from
7 p.m. to midnight, at the Dayton
Opportunity Center. The cost is
50 cents per person. There w ill be
both Spanish and American records.
On Saturday, April 2, the Teen
Club of Dayton is having a Mexican
