C. SELF-HELP HOUSING QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS (Continued from last week) Q) Do we have- to start paying the loan o ff right away?. A) No. Families do not have to pay on their loans until the house is finished and they move into it. This way, they aren't p a y in g a double payment; one on the loan and one for rent until their new home is finished. This is called DE FERRED PAYMENT. However, this payment must be' made up, but this amount is s p r e a d over the whole time that the family has to pay off the loan. Q) How much w ill the payments be? A) The payments on a loan for $6000 are $28 each month; on a loan for $8000, payments are $37 each month; on a $10,000 loan, $46 each month. On Saturday, February 5, a film about self-help housing was shown in the Hillsboro Opportunity Cen ter. This film was made by the American F r ie n d s Service Com- rhittee, and is about families in California that built their homes as a Self-Help Housing Project. The film is available in both English and Spanish, and the VML is going to buy one of each for the use of families wanting to know about self-help housing. The Chairman of the Board is Rev. Kent D.
