Truly, Washington County has
enlisted in the War on Poverty!
We cannot be complacent, how
ever, nor can we rest. What we
have accomplished is only a falter

still m a n y frightened families in
our midst. Thursday morning, fo r

What kind of education and job
training can welfare recipients get?
Job training fo r welfare recip
ients can’ be either on-the-job train
ing or formal schooling. On-the-job
training plans can be established in
public agencies. Welfare recipients
can gain experience by. w orking in
the public agency fo r as many
hours each month as it w ould take
them to earn their public welfare
grant at prevailing wage scales.
Plans fo r f o r m a l schooling are
worked out on an individual basis
according to the needs and apti
tudes of the recipient. Plans for
training are approved after consid
eration o f the merits o f fhe plan by
the County Welfare Department.
Certain limits o f time and costs are
established as the program is not
intended to finance college educa
tion.
