PAGE 7 FREE THE FREE MARKET Are free markets really free? 1^7. Free market...? Take what you need -- No charge? Odd concept this: Market - maybe; Free -- not exactly. Money market? Commercial market? Expensive market? Rich market? No-poor-allowed market? Why do people starve - in a free market? Why do people freeze -- in a free market? Why do people go homeless in a free market? \r^ u Why is a free market not free? Z Is the free market a prisoner of the rich? Who will free the free market? Uit • ~ACE HAYES MARTIN KOZLOWSKI THE ALL-AMERICAN MUSHROOM BY ACE HAYES Those who learn a false history are quite as doomed as those who learn no history at all. Americans are doomed by both criteria. Most leam no history at all, while some learn a false history which is, possibly, even worse. Take the idea that America is a country vtfiich cares about human rights. This is a myth of such monstrous falsity that it beggars the imagination of Goebbel’s ghost. Since 1789, with the neo-Tory counterrevolution, the U S. government has supported every despot, tyrant, monarch ist, fascist and Nazi around the world - and here at home. Imperial ambition has been the absolute imperative of America since the founding of the 2nd Republic. George Washington supported the monarchists against the French Republic just as Bill Clinton supports the Chinese imperialists against the Chinese democracy movement. This contradiction between myth and reality has created terminal schizophrenia in this country. This pathology has been the sand upon vtfiich the house of kleptocracy has been built. Whether it is Newt or Clinton, it is the looting of the common wealth vtfiich truly animates them. The all-American mushrooms who love this political mud wrestling, who watch and really believe that one kleptocrat is to be preferred over another, are tc be despised more than pitied. However, this schizo-kleptocracy is about to move from its dominant tradition of control through myth into overt fascist police power. From the founding of the 2nd Republic, the neo- Tory elite have employed the iron heel of thugs and police in successive waves of repression. But wha, has always saved the elite from a rebellion becoming a successful revolution has been the willingness to share the common wealth with the middling classes. Thus, the middle class signed on with the elite after World War 2 due to the element of shared imperial advantage against domestic and foreign 3rd world policies This morbid alliance is coming to an historical end This is the Humpty Dumpty which the neo-Tones can never put together back again. The signs of impending death litter the social landscape the real minimum wage is now half what it was in 1968; real average wages have dropped every year since 1973; over one million citizens are nowin prison; over 1/4 of children are now living in poverty; over 1/5 of Americans are functionally illiterate; college tuition has increased by more than four times since 1968. The kleptocracy has gone utterly mad Billions for Wall Street bailouts and nothing for 3rd world babies except con tempt, cops and concentration camps is the road to chaos. Warnings about the wrong road began for America with the Declaration of Independence from the British Empire (read it for the details). However, the facts about the recent wong turns have come from a series of major works about which everyone should be informed. Lack of basic knowledge will permit frauds such as Newt and Clinton to sell their sophistries as "solutions " Global Rift The Third World Comes of Age by L S Stavrianos (1981, Morton & Co.) is a very important work Had it been read and understood during the past 13 years there would be no GATT, NAFTA, Newt or Clinton. The following excerpts from the authors notes were written in the first year of RayGun and now, in the first year of Newt, the structural pathology is ever more vicious. "Because of the unprecedented impact of modem science and technology, people of both the developed and undeveloped countries find themselves today in the same boat, plagued by similar problems and confronted with the grim and very real prospect of drowning together. "(T)he little know fact (is) that a growing number of Americans now are beset by problems hitherto considered to be peculiar to the 3rd w»rid. Our lives are being remolded by the 3rd Industrial Revolution, which is infinitely more powerful and expansionist than the preceding two Industrial Revolutions... 'Thus if we look about us, and have the eyes to see, we find that much of the 3rd world is cropping up within the 1st world "Example Unemployment A high rate of chronic structural unemployment has long been a feature of most 3rd world countries. Today it is becoming the norm also in the 1st world, and a basic reason is the exporting of industries as well as of goods from developed to undeveloped countries Each time a factory shipped to an overseas cheap-labor area, there is a corresponding export of jobs, or import of unemployment. The new technology of the 3rd Industrial Revolution has made possi ble such a large-scale transplanting of industries to cheap-labor countries that a common global labor market is evolving. The hitherto privileged and highly paid labor force of the West is being forced to share the traditional unemployment and low wages of 3rd world workers. . "Example Uprooted Farmers Capital-intensive agri business technology uprooted first the farmers in the United States and then the peasants of the 3rd world "Example Poverty. '(P)overty has been little reduced' since the War on Poverty began in the mid-1960s with the <$> number of officially poor Americans remaining at 25 million... "Example: Political Prisoners. The fact that so many people are in prison due to the failings of our political system makes them political prisoners... Example: Ghettoes & Colonies. 'Ghettoes are in fact social, political, educational, and above all -- economic colonies. Those confined within the ghetto walls are subject peoples'... Example: States & Colonies. Dependent and exploitive relationships in 1st world countries are no, confined to minority peoples. They span color lines and encompass entire regions "Example: Cultural Imperialism 3rd world countries pro test against... 1s, world control of global mass media... "All this is no, to say tha, the United States has become a 3rd world country Rather it is to say tha, the traditional differ entiation between affluent developed countries and impoverish ed underdeveloped countries no longer is clearcu, and mutually exclusive. Distinctive 3rd world conditions and institutions are becoming widespread in the 1s, world. The underlying reason for this dimming of dividing lines is that all regions of the globe are becoming ever more tightly integrated components of the inter national market economy 'The inhabitants of all regions now are becoming subject peoples -that is, peoples subject to the imperatives of the global market economy With 3rd world conditions sprouting within the metropolitan centers, the history of the 3rd world no longer is the history of distant and exotic peoples with whom we have only tenuous contact. I, is now an integral par, of our own history. Hence the need for 'A Common Vision'..." Three more recent books are ringing the alarm bells about the impending debacle: The Politics of Rich & Poor Wealth and the American Electorate in the Reagan Aftermath, by Kevin Phillips (1990, Random House). America: What Went Wrong?, by Donald Bartett and James Steele (1992, Andres & McMeel, an expanded version of a 9-part series originally published by the Philadelphia Inquirer). The Pooring of America: Competition and the Myth of Free Trade, by Dr Ravi Batra (1993, Collier Books) These books expand, deepen and enlarge the view into the neo-Darwnis, world of the megathieves and the many who are their victims. The exposure of greed, corruption and sophistry by the elite and their kept press, cuts through the miasma of treasonous deceit. If the American people are wiling to be treated like mushrooms, then they deserve being kept in the dark and fed loads of donkey and elephant manure On the other hand, the rebellion against the Empire which hi, high water marks in the 30s and 60s may be ready for a major resurgence in the 90s The principle of human equality will once again become our true North Star by which we guide all our decisions or we w ll sink into a new dark age of Darwnist brutality CAMHON BEACH BOOK COMPANY 132 N o rth H em lo ck, Cannon Beach 43 6 -1 3 0 1 Ace Hayes is an Oregon legend He lives in Portland His article is reprinted from the Portland Free Press.
