The Baker Community Choir will “Sing into Spring” at the Baker marketOR@gmail.com.
Heritage Museum on April 22, 23, and 24. On Friday and
Saturday, the concerts will begin at 7 p.m. and on Sunday there
is an afternoon concert at 3 p.m.
‘This annual spring concert has been a tradition in Baker City
for over 30 years”, said co-director Kelly Brickman. ‘The choir has
gone through many changes over the years but still loves to sing
for the community."
Brickman is sharing the directing job with Hannah Violette, the
Brooklyn Primary School music teacher. The choir will be
accompanied by Kent Bailey and Melanie Trindle.
There will also be pieces sung by the South Baker Children’s
Choir..
‘Their program is growing every year," says Brickman.
She should know as she has helped out since it began in 2011.
The program was begun by the Baker Community Choir to
expand musical opportunities for children beyond their standard
music classes.
“There are now children from Haines who come in to sing and
we are hoping to add children from Keating as well. Next fall the
Children’s Choir will be renamed the Baker Valley Children’s
Choir to reflect the growth in the program," shared Brickman.
The South Baker Children’s Choir is an after-school program for
grades 4-6. It meets on Mondays and Wednesdays with director
Russ Carpenter and accompanist Melanie Trindle. Students not
only learn to sing in a choir setting, but they also learn about
music theory and concert etiquette and they perform for others
and attend concerts and musicals. At these Baker Community
Choir concerts, the students will perform their own three songs
as well as two numbers with the adult choir.
Admission to the concert is free but donations will gladly be
accepted. Donations will be used to buy more music and to help
fund the Children’s Choir.
The Medical Springs Rural Fire
Department meeting is the 1st
