On Friday and Saturday, the concerts will begin at 7 p.m. and on Sunday there is an afternoon concert at 3 p.m. ‘This annual spring concert has been a tradition in Baker City for over 30 years”, said co-director Kelly Brickman. ‘The choir has gone through many changes over the years but still loves to sing for the community." Brickman is sharing the directing job with Hannah Violette, the Brooklyn Primary School music teacher. The choir will be accompanied by Kent Bailey and Melanie Trindle. There will also be pieces sung by the South Baker Children’s Choir.. ‘Their program is growing every year," says Brickman. She should know as she has helped out since it began in 2011. The program was begun by the Baker Community Choir to expand musical opportunities for children beyond their standard music classes. “There are now children from Haines who come in to sing and we are hoping to add children from Keating as well. Next fall the Children’s Choir will be renamed the Baker Valley Children’s Choir to reflect the growth in the program," shared Brickman. The South Baker Children’s Choir is an after-school program for grades 4-6. It meets on Mondays and Wednesdays with director Russ Carpenter and accompanist Melanie Trindle. Students not only learn to sing in a choir setting, but they also learn about music theory and concert etiquette and they perform for others and attend concerts and musicals. At these Baker Community Choir concerts, the students will perform their own three songs as well as two numbers with the adult choir. Admission to the concert is free but donations will gladly be accepted. Donations will be used to buy more music and to help fund the Children’s Choir. The Medical Springs Rural Fire Department meeting is the 1st Thursday of every month, 7 p.m. at Pondosa Station. East to West ~ A Parkinson’s Journey Cohort 5 of the Ford Family Community Leadership Program is presenting the Blue Yesterdays at a Community Dance, Saturday April 30,7-11 p.m. at the Baker Elks Lodge. The dance is to ben efit construction of the Disc Golf Course at the Baker Sports Com plex. Admission is free, but donations to the construction of the course will be gladly accepted. Cohorts of the Ford Family Community Leadership Program are asked to complete a Community Project as part of the training. The current group selected the Disc Golf Course Proposal for a number of competing idea.
