Wednesday, September 13, 2017 IVHS teams off to mixed starts Page A-3 Sports The Illinois Valley Cougars traveled to Adair Village Friday, Sept. 8 for a non-conference game against the Santiam Christian High School Eagles. The Cougars lost 51-13. Rayes Dugas pulled down a 12-yard pass late in the third quarter to put the Cougars on the score- board. Dane Alvarez added a fumble recovery for a safety and a TD in the fourth quarter. Alvarez led the Cougars with 59 rushing yards. Quarterback Caleb Hess earned 108 pass- ing yards, and Elijah Polk had 34 pass-reception yards. Volleyball is off to a good start under Coach Jesse Tree and Beth Boatman. The Cougars have started the season with three wins and as many losses. The ladies start league play Thursday at home against Lakeview. In girls’ soccer Dick Matti is back for an encore season. The ladies currently sit at 1-2 with the last non league game at home against Coquiell / Myrtle Point Thurs- day. The Cougs start league play Saturday at home against Cascade Christian. Head coach Neigel Hruska along with assistant coach Dustin Henderson have started out the boys’ soccer season with mixed results. Win against Pacific / Ban- don and one loss against St. Mary’s. The boys will play Cascade Christian in Medford Sept. 16.
