As this is far more than the city has in its coffers, Boger suggested that the city seek grant funding through an organization called Business Oregon, which brings different granting organizations together for what he called “a one-stop funding meeting.” At such a meeting “a few agencies can come together and provide a better package than anyone could by themselves” said Boger. Watkins Street and S. Redwood Hwy. *The sleepy driver involved in the accident in the 400 block of S. Redwood Hwy. appeared to be experiencing a medical issue or was under the influence. American Medical Response transported him to the emergency room for medical evaluation. *Law enforcement checked on a Smith and Wesson 9mm behind the east side of Rough and Ready Wayside at 4:46 p.m. Sunday, July 9 *On June 29, a gal admitted that she was driving an older dark red van when she ran into a vehicle in the parking lot at Caves Pharmacy. She also confessed that she did not have a valid driver’s license, registration, or insurance. A report was filed for insurance purposes. A deputy claimed that he would take appropriate action if he witnessed her behind the wheel again *At 2:04 p.m. a silver-colored to “seek the most funding available that is in the best interest of the city of Cave Junction.” This resolution does not obligate the city to any specific funding package or dollar amount, but just allows them to start shopping around. Any potential funding packages, whether they are grants or loans, would come back to the council for discussion and approval. The amount of funding available will determine how and when the projects are undertaken. The council also voted to authorize the County Treasurer to include the city in the Josephine County Investment Program. This is a program in which the County Treasurer invests the city’s tax revenue until it is needed by the city. According to Mayor Daniel Dalegowski, the city takes part in this program every year. There was then a brief discussion of the proposed I.V. by Candlelight event, a reprise of last year’s candlelight walk in support of public safety. Councilor Jean Ann Miles, who is one of the event organizers, was seeking city approval for the event. As the event is still in the planning stages, Miles did not have all Chevy Astro was parked on private property in the 800 block of Fernwood Drive. Old Stage Road at 2:34 p.m. The pickup truck’s tires were slinging rocks. *Robin Joseph McCafferty, 36, was detained at Josephine County Jail following his arrest in the 200 block of N. Old Stage Road at 3:35 p.m. McCafferty had a felony warrant from Josephine County Jail for probation violation for possession of meth. *A fellow driving a blue Ford F250 pickup truck ran into a red Chevy Cobalt that was parked near the swinging bridge at Illinois River Trailhead at 4:03 p.m. He left an insurance card with a witness, but he conveniently left before the owner of the Cobalt showed up. *At 5:12 p.m. a chap was observed pushing a gold-colored Honda Accord in a parking lot at a 76 service station at Hwy. 199 and of the details that the council requested. The discussion was tabled until the next meeting. I.V. by Candlelight is scheduled for Aug. 3 after the Concert in the Park at Jubilee Park. During the public comment period at the end of the meeting, and the closing comments from the council, multiple people voiced their approval of Deputy Gerald Bayard, the contract deputy who is currently serving the Cave Junction area. They also praised the Josephine County Sheriff’s Department for its cooperation with local public safety groups. Burglaries in the Cave Junction area were down over the last month, a fact that Bayard attributed to this increased cooperation. Councilor Lindsey Gillette proposed drafting a letter to the sheriff expressing the peoples’ pleasure with their deputy. The Cave Junction City Council meets the second Monday of the month, with additional meetings scheduled as needed. The next meeting is July 24. The feisty female stated that she drew the gun after he pulled a knife on her. (Thus, the expression “Don’t bring a knife to a gun fight”.) *The operator of a red Subaru was observed swerving on Hwy. 199 near Deer Creek Road at 6:29 p.m. (Watch out for those ditches.) Monday, July 10 *At 11:39 a.m. Christopher Roy was causing problems at 220 S. Redwood Hwy. and was transported and detained at Josephine County Jail on a parole violation detainer. COHO ... He was refusing to let her take children to a safe place. He pedaled his bike away from the 24500 block of Redwood Hwy. *An oblivious burglar was captured on video surveillance as he pried open a locked window at 212 S. Redwood Hwy. at 2:30 a.m. on July 5. The thief absconded with $20 and a tablet. A report was filed for burglary and theft. *There was a disturbance at 2:49 p.m. in the 27800 block of Redwood Hwy. because a guy in a green Chevy S10 pickup truck was threatening to kill a fellow. *An impromptu demolition derby occurred in the 9400 block of Takilma Road at 3:48 p.m. A neighbor was using a truck to push cars around on his property, and was damaging vehicles in the process. The informer claimed that he was going to get his gun and go down there, but law enforcement discouraged him from doing so. The resident was informed that although he had a receipt, he did bit.” Slowing down the flows in Grayback, O’Brien added, will also tend to slow down Sucker Creek because of lower flows heading downstream. The cost of the project cost is about $38,000, of which $10,000 comes from lottery funds and the rest from the U.S. Forest Service. The Forest Service is also providing the wood. A neighbor stated that the man had been transported to Roseburg. *Gunshots were heard from the 300 block of Taurus Lane at 7:15 a.m., 10:30 p.m., 4 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. Neighbors (and their animals) are tired of the noise from the large marijuana grow. *Thieves didn’t get a lot of dough when they burglarized Perfect Pizza Plus at 212 N. Redwood Hwy. on July 5 at 2 a.m. A dude with a unique tattoo on the back of his neck was recorded on SOS surveillance video. As the business owner entered the back door, the burglar grabbed $10 and escaped through the front window. *A pyromaniac set a piece of wadded paper on fire in front of 126 S. Redwood Hwy. at 5:23 p.m. She quickly stomped it out when law enforcement drove by and beeped.
