The girls fell to St. Mary’s in the final home game at Ken Mann Me- morial Gymnasium. The Cougars will meet St. Mary’s in the first round of playoffs at home Wednesday, Feb. 15. Ray Brown IVN Contributing Writer The Illinois Valley Lady Cougars finished their season of league play at Cascade Christian Tuesday in Medford. The Cougars built a lead of 27-14 by halftime and were only outscored in the third quarter to get the win. Coach Serena Barry reported, “At Cascade Aundrea led the team with 17 points, six rebounds, six steals and five assists. Tori Johnson had 11 points, nine rebounds and four assists, while Aarika Brooks had 11 points and eight rebounds. Courtney Scott, Bailee Moore, and Roza Jonas each pulled down six rebounds and did an excellent job of containing Emily Stephens, a strong sophomore center that scored 27 points in our first game against them. Those three helped hold her to nine points. Miller also drew a few fouls on Stephens early in the game, which limited her minutes, while Scott took a big charge in the third quarter to put her on the bench again. We made a run at the end of the first half, and while Cascade cut into it in the third, we were able to extend it in the fourth and finish strong. The final score was 46-35.” Then the girls traveled again to Bonanza for a nonleague contest and continued their winning ways. Coach Barry said, “A balanced scoring effort in this victory. Johnson had 16 points and Miller had 14 points; Scott had 13 points, and Brooks had nine. We started the game off sluggish; many of the girls recovering from illness. But we were able to battle back and finished really strong, scoring 22 points as a team in the fourth quarter. The final score was score was I.V. 58, Bonanza 49.” Barry continued to recap the girls’ efforts, “We finished second place this year in the Southern Cascade League with a 6-2 record. Now we are looking at the post season. We will host a home playoff game Wednesday Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. against third place St. Mary’s. The winner of that game will move on and play first place Lakeview on either Friday or Saturday to determine seeding for the 3A state playoffs.” IVHS senior recap: Andrea Miller is one of the many Millers in the Valley. She at least once said she would rather wrestle than play basketball. An athlete is an athlete, and when you combine that with her competitive spirit, she could probably excel at any sport. Roza Jonas hails from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. She came to this county and soon started playing basketball in the Boys and Girls Club program, then one year in Fall River, California. She came back to Cave Junction destined to be a Cougar and play the game she loves. Victoria Johnson got to be coached by her dad Ray in the Boys and Girls Cub program and always had the look of competitiveness and love of the game. She will always glance at the hoops if she’s open at the 3-point line. with Lisa Sherier Mondays & Wednesdays $5 Drop-in 6:15-7:15 pM at Healthy U 535 E river St. 541-761-4342 Art’s Red Garter Pool Tourney Tuesdays - 6:30 KARAOKE Wednesdays @ 9 p.m. ROSS WELCOME F r i d a y, F e b . 1 7 5:30 PM KARAOKE w/ Steve - OH Guppy Saturday the 18th @ 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17 @ 9 p.m Saturday Pool Tourney @ 7 Every Wednesday Free pool on Sundays from Open MIC Night 6 - 8 p.m. Taylor’s Country Store Fridays @ 6 p.m. J Barley Sportsman Tavern The G SPOT Hump day Karaoke w/ Jammer Dave 8-midnight Open Mic w/ B Thursdays @ 7 p.m. OPEN: Tues. - Sat. 6 PM - MIDNIGHT SOUTHBOUND duo Scott and Kari Friday, Feb. 17, 8 p.m. $5 @ McG re w’s!
