The varsity boys’ team
from Cascade Christian
came to town with a
ranking of No. 3 in their
state division and then got
busy proving why. The
Challengers brought their
height, quickness, and skill
and left little chance for
the Cougars to keep up.
Even though the Cougars
are talented, energetic and
entertaining, they were
outmatched in this game.
That did not stop them from
trying their best and keeping
their composure throughout
the game. The Challengers
doubled the Cougars’ point
production throughout the
game that ended at a score
of 29-64. Skylar McLanahan
led the home team in scoring
with 15, Bryce Brunner had
eight, and Tanner Davis had
four.
The boys took on
the Gold Beach Panthers
Saturday evening at home in
the Ken Mann Gymnasium
in front of a light crowd.
After spotting the visitors 10
points at the beginning, the
Cougars got to work to keep
the game interesting. Skylar
McLanahan scored nine of
the Cougars’ 11 in the first
period, which ended 11-18.
In the second, the Cougars
gradually caught up and tied
the game at halftime at 34
after seven more points by
McLanahan, six by Elijah
Polk, and five by Caleb
Hess. The Cougars shooting
went cold in the third despite
four more points by Polk,
who made four free throws
in the fourth to total eight
points from him in the final
period. The game ended with
the score Gold Beach on top
62-54. Polk had a breakout
game with 18 points, eight
of which were foul shots; 17
for McLanahan; and Hess
with 10. The Cougars will
be back in league action
Friday night at home against
Lakeview.
