All persons listed are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Charges can be amended or dismissed.) *** Sunday, March 13 *At 9:33 a.m., an alert citizen reported a truck on the southeast side of the river at the green bridge river access on Eight Dollar Mountain Road. The dark blue Ford or Dodge was about six feet from the water, and the river was rising and moving swiftly. The truck appeared to have been pushed out of the parking area towards the river, because it was in park position and not out of gear. There was no one around the area, and contact information was not current for the registered owner, but the owner has an April 29 court date. It was decided that the vehicle would remain there as long as it did not become a water hazard. *There was a he-said, she-said disturbance in the 24500 block of Redwood Hwy. at 9:54 a.m. He said she was homeless, and trying to move back into his house instead of living in her coffee-brown Toyota Camry. Apparently he did not approve of her approach of taunting him, throwing things around the house and taking his laptop and other items. Her version is that he threw her belongings out in the rain, and she was retrieving them and piling them on top of his blue Mercedes. She was arguing with neighbors, but no one had any weapons, so there was no crime involved. *Postings on the Facebook page “To Catch a Thief” provided clues to a trespass incident in the 500 block of W. River Street. When a handyman went to the home to plug off the water supply line, he found the front door damaged. There was clothing scattered in the bedroom and garage, and a mirror was broken. Damage was assessed at $400, and a report was filed for second-degree burglary, second-degree mischief and second-degree trespass. Possible suspect information involves a black late 90s Honda Accord which has been seen parked in the garage. *Power lines were down at Caves Hwy. and Holland Loop at 11:29 a.m., and 2,300 customers were without power. The signal lights were out in all four directions at N. Redwood Hwy. and W. River Street, but the other traffic lights were working. *In May 2012 a woman traded her 1996 Kropf manufactured structure for a motor scooter, cash, and a 1982 Nu-Wa fifth wheel. She wisely retained that title until she obtained the title to the Nu-Wa. In October 2013 she filed a theft report because a clear title to the Nu-Wa was still nowhere to be found. When she recently tried again to obtain the title, a brute was witnessed threatening to kill her if she didn’t leave. The person currently possessing the Kropf is willing to work something out to solve this civil matter. *Illinois Valley Fire District requested law enforcement assistance on a medical call for an irrational and uncooperative patient on the 4900 block of Holland Loop Road at 2:30 p.m. *All was fine during an area check of the Forks State park at 3:24 p.m. *SOS reported an alarm in the 300 block of Caves Hwy. at 3:31 p.m. following a hit to the lab window and a glass break detector alarm. There was an extension cord running through an open rear window, and a light was on inside the building. Wet footprints led to the rear door, but the perimeter was secure, and the event was changed from burglary to false alarm. *Melissa Lowenstein, 49, was lodged at Josephine County jail for failure to appear on criminal trespass charges. The arrest happened at 3:44 p.m. in the 300 block of Caves Hwy. Outside the Valley *Nine calls were logged. Monday, March 14 *There was a follow-up regarding the removal of plates from a motor home in the 200 block of Ollis Road at 10:35 a.m. *A by-passer reported seeing a car in the west side of the river near the Forks State park at 10:52 a.m. Just the white top and windows were observed, the rest was under water. The City of Cave Junction was enroute to unlock the gate to the NE corner access road. It was an optical illusion - the sunken car was actually a rock on the side of the highway that had been painted white and blue since last summer. The colorful boulder is usually 90-percent exposed, but due to high water, it does appear to be a vehicle. (See for yourself by driving northbound towards Cave Junction on Hwy. 199. Look just after the Forks park about 100 feet from the bridge on the right side, or east at the first bridge just prior to reaching C.J.) *The vehicle that was near the river by the green bridge on Eight Dollar Mountain Road had been dragged away before the area was checked at 11:04 a.m. *What sounded like a domestic violence call at 12:38 p.m. led to the arrest of a fugitive in the 100 block of Dogwood Lane. Some joker was upset because he drove a gal somewhere and she didn’t pay for the fuel. (Gas, grass or ?) The domestic violence was unfounded, but a fugitive from Del Norte County is now lodged on a no-bail warrant charged with parole violation. He will be extradited. *Someone wearing a gray jacket and blue jeans near the stage at Jubilee park was considered to be a suspicious-looking character at 2:12 p.m. *There was a sleepy guy taking a siesta on Schumacher Street and Vineyard Place in a tan Chevy pickup with no front plate at 2:50 p.m. *Kaleb John Bartee, 45, was arrested at in the 300 block of Caves Hwy. at 5:07 p.m. He was lodged at Josephine County Jail on warrants charging failure to appear on disorderly conduct and second- degree criminal trespass. The “Walking Man” also faces additional charges of resisting arrest and interfering because deployed tazers were ineffective on him. Apparently the probes did not penetrate his clothing. Outside the Valley *There were 22 situations logged. Tuesday, March 15 *Two brothers were fighting in the 24500 block of Redwood Hwy. and one put his hand through a glass window. (That was real sharp.) After that he reportedly hit himself on the temple a couple of times. One of the brothers was in police custody, and somehow Breanna Schiszler, 39, ended up being arrested and lodged on warrants. *The 911 hang-up call at 1:03 p.m. from the 27500 block of Redwood Hwy. was apparently a false alarm because neighbors saw the resident leave half an hour before and he seemed fine. *For some reason law enforcement was doing some investigating in the 200 block of Shadowbrook Drive at 2:11 p.m. *At 4:25 p.m. a little birdie phoned 911 to report that the person who was trespassing on his property last week was currently at Lake Selmac. The previous trespasser wasn’t doing anything wrong, but that’s where he could be found if law enforcement just happened to be looking for him. *Law enforcement was back at the 200 block of Shadowbrook Drive at 4:32 p.m. in response to a restraining order violation. *At 6:04 p.m., a crying woman phoned 911 and said “he stabbed me” before the call was disconnected. Medics and law enforcement went to the 3400 block of Deer Creek Road, but the alleged stabber was gone, and there was no crime because the woman did not have any injuries. Outside the Valley * There were 15 entries. Wednesday, March 16 *A good friend recovered a stolen vehicle for a grateful lady in the 6000 block of Rockydale Road. The mystery remains as to where the vehicle had been found. *Vandals keyed a white 1986 Toyota 4-runner in the 37400 block of Redwood Hwy. They signed their artwork with a name befitting themselves. *Two hoodlums destroyed a mailbox in the 2000 block of Holland Loop Road. A neighbor left a note with the names of the destructive postal punks. *An unoccupied white Ford pick-up with California plates was parked alongside Hwy. 199 at Patton Bar. *At 1:26 p.m. a real estate agent thought that someone might be inside a house in the 500 block of W. River Street because a back bedroom was locked from the inside. Both prior trespassers have found other living arrangements in the Josephine County Jail, so all was fine. *A guy who sent a mediator to retrieve his belongings on Pine Tree Way was not in violation because the District Attorney’s Office decreed that an amendment to the restraining order was not enforceable in the manner in which it was written. *However, the sneak on Shadowbrook Drive wearing a tan jacket and carrying a large backpack was in violation of his restraining order at 5:01 p.m. *It’s the night that the lights went out on Lister. The green traffic signal light on Hwy. 199 for the turn onto W. Lister Street has been out for two days, but the red and yellow signals work just fine.
