All persons listed are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Charges can be amended or dismissed.) *** Outside the Valley *Several calls; lost count due to duplicated items. Thursday, Aug. 14 Monday, Aug. 11 *After a woman was yelling at people in the 5400 block of West- side Road, a suggestion was made to obtain a restraining order. There also was a mention of a gun being pulled by a man on the complainant, also a man, the night before. Outside the Valley *Thirteen calls, including one from Riverbanks Road about a burglary. Reported taken were two rifles, an antique Irish pistol, three motorcycles, a Kindle unit, coins, jewelry and U.S. mili- tary medals from Vietnam service. Plus the bastards thrashed the interior of the house. Tuesday, Aug. 12 *No calls listed for the Valley. Outside the Valley *Ten calls, including one about a man saying that he was watch- ing a dead deer floating on the Rogue River near Baker Park. (Maybe it wasn’t dead; even deer might like to relax in the wa- ter). And there was one call about Oregon State Police (OSP) in pursuit on Interstate 5 of a black Charger (a car, not a member of the San Diego football team) with Texas plates at speeds from 85 to to 120 mph. Josephine County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) caught up near Sunny Valley, and the Charger driver crashed. Wednesday, Aug. 13 *A residential burglar alarm from Old Stage Road was termed “beyond available resources (BAR) at 9:26 a.m. by JCSO. *Although a Kerby resident claimed “violation of a restraining order” by someone or other, JCSO found the call without merit as such. *Following a backing-up collision at the CJ 76 station, the driver of a pickup truck, who is said to have “seriously damaged” the right-front side of a Honda, stated that neither he nor his passen- ger heard the Honda driver’s horn being honked. *The owner of a 2006 red-and-white Honda 250 dirt bike in the 1300 block of Rockydale Road reported theft of the bike the night before. He valued the bike at $6,000 and believes that two people were involved in the crime; unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. *A deputy responded to back up an OSP trooper in O’Brien after the latter didn’t answer his dispatcher. It turned out OK though, apparently. *Seems as though excessive use of alcoholic beverages could be contributing to problems at the Store Gulch Campground out Il- linois River Road. There was a domestic violence situation there at approximately 3:02 p.m. with a woman with a small child suffering a gash on her head, and the “boyfriend” leaving in what some might call a cowardly fashion. *At 3:42 p.m. the woman in the previous incident, at the same location and said to be armed with a butter knife, was struck with sticks by two people. It seemed that they suspected her of steal- ing from them. She did not want medical help, and no complaints were filed. Outside the Valley *Log lists 12 calls including one at Almeda Park about a jerk with a history of causing problems and threatening use of a gun after he was “trespassed” from the site. Friday, Aug. 15 *On N. Old Stage Road a resident was a bit concerned when two guys pushed a car to her house and asked if they could put it in the carport. Permission was given, and they returned later with tools to fix the car. *There was a landlord-tenant dispute on Merlot Drive. Informa- tion was provided to those involved, but it appears that an evic- tion process will be needed. Cooper, Associated Press SALEM, Ore. (AP) — The campaign behind an Oregon ballot measure that would legalize marijuana for adults says it’s buying $2.3 million worth of television advertising. The debate is shaping up to be lopsided; nobody with deep pockets has stepped forward to make the case against legalized marijuana. Legalization proponents on Monday released a YouTube video that they will form the basis for their first television commercial. It shows the former head of addictions and mental health services for the Oregon Health Authority. Richard Harris says that marijuana “is a pretty benign drug,” and efforts to control it have failed. Records submitted to the Federal Communications Commission by television stations indicate the ads will begin airing on Sept. 22 in Portland and Eugene, and a few weeks later in Medford and Bend. Residents purchased drinks and paid for two sandwich trays from Taylors. I can tell you the outpouring of support was well appreciated by the hun- gry crews who worked through dinner well until the next morning trying to save homes. We even had one resident put up a donation can at Taylors for IVFD. In the near future, we will be seeking donations to purchase one or two thermal imaging cameras (TIC’s). The cameras are used in fires to assist in the search for victims. These cameras sense body heat and allow us to perform rescues in smoked filled rooms where visibility is zero. This technology saves lives. The cameras cost $5,000 each. When they first came out, the cost was $20,000 each. They are now more affordable. Our goal is to have one for the engines at each station.
