Charges can be amended or dismissed.) *** Monday, June 2 *Nada, blank, zip, zero: Real quiet in the Valley appar- ently, as no calls were noted. Outside the Valley *There were 21 inci- dents logged including the re- ported loss of approximately $540 worth of items from a rental unit by a former ten- ant on Moonbeam Lane. And on Almeda Street a resident was worried that a neighbor’s large marijuana garden was using too much water. And on Lower River Road some nut keeps taking people’s outgo- ing mail from their boxes. Tuesday, June 3 *At 8:05 a.m. a distress call was received from Kerby Mainline Road involving an unofficial tenant who was said to have broken into a house and that sometimes she starts “going crazy.” Information was provided on a restraining order (RO), and some mari- juana said to belong to the “tenant” was seized and de- stroyed. *Chris Leon Sargent, 52, was arrested on a charge of vi- olation of a no-contact order after a call from Ollis Road during which a complainant said that he had threatened to blow up the residence and that he was getting aggressive with a caretaker. Sargent got a ride to the Josephine County Jail in Grants Pass for accom- modations. *An RO was served on Boundary Lane. Then one was served on E. River Street, and the recipient walked away with his backpack and dog. *An attempt was made to serve an RO on S. Junc- tion Avenue, but the person didn’t seem to be home, so a note was left to make contact with the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO). *Two rifles, part of an estate on Caves Hwy., were reported missing, as well as other items. *Forcible burglary to a residence on Naue Way was logged with a notation that jewelry, guns, a gun safe and a Kioti ATV were taken. Outside the Valley *Nine calls were logged including one involving the JCSO impound yard on High- land Avenue where a typically brainless vandal climbed the fence and used a brick to cause $500 damage to a truck. And a possible joker asked a clerk at a store on Merlin Road if he’d like to split the money in the register if he robbed the place. The clerk declined. Wednesday, June 4 *In the 400 block of E. River Street a vehicle was moved in connection with some sort of parking com- plaint. *There was a call from “a legal tenant” on Ollis Road, who said that some- one is violating a no-contact order by having third-party callers contact her to ask her “for things.” He called his caregiver “approximately 30 times wanting her to tell the complainant to get him out of jail. He called his grand- daughter ... to contact the complainant” and when she wouldn’t give her some of his personal belongings “the granddaughter made threats.” He phoned “the landlord and told him to tell the complain- ant that she is evicted ... (the landlord) ... walked into the residence without knocking to tell her that he is going to lock her out.” On-site managers were advised of their options, and jail staff were advised that “the subject is making harass- ing phone calls.” *After receiving an ap- parent bogus email from a mortgage company a wise Crooks Creek Road resident was concerned that others might fall for the scam. *There was an unoccu- pied vehicle “in the woods” behind I.V. Guns & Ammo, and a deputy checked it. A field interrogation might have been conducted, but it was unclear. *An attempt was made to serve an RO on Kerby Mainline Road. *On Millie Street, due to a report from Cave Junc- tion City Hall of a “suspicious vehicle” on blocks, the ve- hicle was checked and found to be apparently not stolen. The house is vacant; “boats and other items have recently been moved.” Outside the Valley *Five calls were logged. Thursday, June 5 *An RO was served on S. Junction Avenue. *In the 5000 block of Lakeshore Drive shortly prior to 9 a.m. it sounded as though four or five men were fighting over a vehicle at a transient camp area with numerous trailers and large, mean dogs, and there was yelling about shooting one another. A JCSO deputy and an Oregon State Police trooper responded with emergency lights and sirens; no crime was located although a man carrying a metal bar ap- parently boogied. *In the 300 block of Caves Hwy. at 9:11 a.m. two men looked as though they were going to fight. River Street. Details were unclear, but someone, likely the appar- ent suspect, was said to have taken $120 from a food cart. A report was to follow on ha- rassment and second-degree burglary. *The death of a man in the 7000 block of Rockydale Road was reported. Next of kin were to be notified. *Information was logged close to noon regarding an oc- cupancy dispute on O’Brien Road. *On Krauss Lane, it was reported by a woman, people were trying to surround an American Medical Response ambulance “to not let them do their job.” She said that a woman in a house needed to go to a hospital. No disposi- tion was listed. *There seemed to be a disturbance, based on a tele- phone call, from the 2300 block of Holland Loop Road at 1:47 p.m. The calls was logged by JCSO as “beyond available resources” (BAR). *A residential alarm at 2:24 p.m. from the 800 block of Caves Hwy. was logged as BAR. *Logged for informa- tion was a 2:36 p.m. call from someone who claimed that at 2 a.m. someone was driving a black sports car and firing a gun in the vicinity of Red- wood Hwy. and Hussey Av- enue. The caller said that she didn’t phone earlier because her phone was broken. *A woman said that transients show up after dark to sleep on the “extra parking lot of Taylor’s and Immanuel United Methodist Church next to Shop Smart Food Ware- house.” She has asked them to leave, but they refuse and become belligerent, she said. She was advised that the call would be logged for informa- tion “as we (JCSO) cannot enforce this matter with no patrol in the evening hours and that it’s not her property so she can’t enforce the tres- passing matter either.” *An attempt was made shortly before 3 p.m. to locate someone or something in the vicinity of Caves Hwy. and Old Stage Road. Outside the Valley *There were 14 calls including one from Merlin Road involving a 68-year-old man who was “pinned under a lawnmower in a ditch about 5 feet deep.” A boom rig, a funeral home vehicle and a death investigation were or- dered. Friday, June 6 *In the 200 block of Caves Avenue at 8:06 a.m. an awning at the rear of a house was afire and it was said that the blaze was started by three transients in their 60s liv- ing there. I.V. Fire District responded and noted that the flames seemed to be caused by outside cooking that got out of control. *A woman on Draper Valley Road said that her son phoned and threatened to shoot her. JCSO said that “she was encouraged to call if he arrives and she feels that her life is in danger.” The woman was advised about RO proce- dures and “at length regarding how to protect herself and her property and was not coop- erative. She is upset that there will be no response unless her son comes to the scene. He is a legal tenant ... she was ad- vised regarding ... eviction procedures.” *An intoxicated man who was been “trespassed” keeps returning to a Cave Junction business. *On Ollis Road a resi- dent was advised that his un- repaid loan of $270 to some- one is a civil matter. *In the 800 block of Caves Hwy. two residential burglar alarms from the same location were listed as BAR at 12:47 p.m. *Some time between Jan. 1 and Feb. 20, said a man who owns property in Selma, a man from Wolf Creek took everything that he owned in- cluding a box with all the le- gal documentation to prove legal ownership of belongings and vehicles. The suspect subsequently damaged one of the man’s two vehicles while he was driving the other one without permission. *At 1:25 p.m., reported a Josephine County Transit bus driver, a “mental subject” stopped the bus at Redwood Hwy. and Lister Street and was yelling and throwing his walker around. *Some sort of contact occurred at W. River Street and Hussey Avenue. *Backup was provided on Ollis Road for some rea- son. *At 2:46 p.m. a highly intoxicated man was on the lawn at Lorna Byrne Middle School and couldn’t move. A neighbor said that his pants were down, but when a school official went to the man his pants (the ones on the drunk) were up. The alcoholic man was given a ride to Jubilee Park. Outside the Valley *Ten calls were listed in- cluding one from Shan Creek Road involving a man shoot- ing one of three pitbulls that bit his wife on the rear of one thigh. I have been to numerous planning meetings, and the fore- casters are predicting warmer temperatures for the summer and a much greater potential for wildland fires to become large-scale events. We need you to do your part. All burning is suspended in the Illi- nois Valley, yet we still have residents who are burning. These individuals are burning ille- gally and placing the community at risk. I am amazed at the response I get when we question the offenders…“we didn’t know” or “I thought it would be OK.” Ignorance of the law is not a defense. IVFD staff have been instructed to take a hard line. If we respond to an illegal burn, the property owner will be fined $250; and if the fire escapes, full suppression cost will be charged. This is in addition to fines from ODF and DEQ. The bill could be in the tens of thousands. Please help us protect the community by fol- lowing burning regulations and having defen- sible space around your structures. This is a great time to review your evacuation plan with your family. I hope we never have to ask you to leave your home, but if it becomes neces- sary, you need to be prepared.
