We grandsons so this is a blessing for our 2 boys. The Autistic person is intelligent and can- not express their feelings and desires as we are blessed to do. And, there are different levels and degrees of autism. Differ- ent ways of teaching them in most of, if not all of, life skills has to be found. The Vance family cannot tell you the wealth of informa- tion we have learned from the Olsons and continue to learn. What a rewarding journey! These young people from the Equestrian Team and their love for everyone, Special Needs or not, are a fine example of what youth are in the Valley. Let’s show our support for them at their State Meet. Examples have been documented that animals can bring blessings, healings, and love into the life of someone with varied chal- lenges. If our vehicle is stopped by the Olson home Eric loves to jump in the Vance’s vehicle, if it’s not locked; if we are walking he comes up to us and touches his check meaning, “Kiss me, now”; and, he loves to “explore our home” when visiting. We are privileged and blessed! The Vance family would invite all who read the 4/30/14 edition of the I.V. Paper, pg. A- 8 article concerning the Eques- trian Team, to learn about these people who have been diagnosed with Autism. Then, the next time the teenager at a checkout line in a store turns around to the lady behind him and starts pulling the flower petals off of flowers being purchased to plant, or is an- noying the man in line behind him who thinks this teenager should be more disciplined by his mom, will know this a Spe- cial Needs situation and, have patience and love. It just could be Eric or one of our 2 great grandsons. Terry Vance, Sr. Cave Junction Reader says yes “My rights—my rights” is what a two party system de- clares during the election cam- paign because that is what it is designed to do. But I am at that table too as a Green Party sup- porter. So, let me have equal time to express my stance: I put myself lower than that honey bee, that monarch, the dragon- fly, and that ladybug. Yup, they were all here today for me to witness on this last warm day of April, not only their pres- ence but their significance! You see, in growing some of my own food, I provide the balanced environment that “we” need to co-exist. Bottom line is, food that’s consump- tion quality must be pollinated because that’s our design. My pollinators are waiting and ex- cited that the garden is for us. GMO crops however, are re- ported to kill pollinators. Wait- those are my pollinators too! It is not difficult to connect the dots in my world: GMO crops and Organics cannot co-exist. Sure, there is the argu- ment of hand-pollinating but that will never achieve the symbiotic relationship that na- ture provides. And if you think that harmful manufactured “things” will just disappear one day, they won’t. Corpo- rate-agribusiness-government that spends mega-tax-dollars to buy state officials and con- trol the future of food does not care one iota about yours or my lives. As corporate busi- ness entities, not people, they don’t possess the faculties for sound ecological reasoning. Having no moral obliga- tion to others, it is pointless to “negotiate.” GMO crops can destroy every small farm in the Illinois, Applegate, and Rogue Valleys in the blink of an eye, as already experienced around the world by several other countries. We also won’t be able to obtain seeds other than theirs. Without a “yes” vote on measure 17-58 we will become helplessly dependent on all our food from agribusi- nesses, and our right to choose will have then indeed clothed the Emperor in new clothes! Thank you for hearing my stance on measure 17-58. Local votes matter!
