Last Tuesday marked the opening of league play for the Il-
linois Valley High School baseball and softball teams.
While the boys struggled, the Lady Cougars excelled in
their game against one of the toughest teams in the league.
While on the road, the IVHS boys had a tough time against
Cascade Christian. Although both teams had no errors during the
game, the Challengers, who are ranked fourth in the 3-A league,
came away with a 13-3 win.
“They were able to outhit us,” said head coach Jesse Du-

The Lady Cougars also played against Cascade Christian
last Tuesday. The girls were able to hold off the Challengers with
great teamwork and took the game, winning 16-11.
Miliya Stewart and Keyanna Augustadt were a force to be
reckoned with. Stewart pitched all seven innings, with Augustadt
behind the plate making sure nothing got by. Mahkayla Som-
mers and Erika Anderson each had two hits. Emily Deters had
two hits that resulted in two RBI’s. Allison Primeau managed
three hits and had four RBI’s.
“This was a game I knew they could play,” said head coach
Bobbie Loyd. “They were awesome. Never once did they get
down, they were aggressive till the end.”

The Lady Cougars were set to host Rogue River during
a home game on Tuesday, April 29, after this paper’s deadline.
The IVHS lady softball squad is next scheduled to play against
Lakeview while on the road on Saturday, May 3.
On Friday, April 25, the baseball team hosted a game against
St. Mary’s. In the bottom of the second inning, though, Mother
Nature decided to dump a hailstorm on the game. The umpire
called for a half hour break in hopes that the weather would clear
up, but that didn’t happen and the game was called.
The boys were set to finish the delayed game at the start of
this week and travel to Rogue River to play against the Chief-
tains on Tuesday, April 29. On Saturday, May 3, the Cougars are
scheduled to go up against Lakeview while on the road.
