Lady Cougars get win over Challengers, boys stumble By Jenna Larkin IVN Contributing Writer Last Tuesday marked the opening of league play for the Il- linois Valley High School baseball and softball teams. While the boys struggled, the Lady Cougars excelled in their game against one of the toughest teams in the league. While on the road, the IVHS boys had a tough time against Cascade Christian. Although both teams had no errors during the game, the Challengers, who are ranked fourth in the 3-A league, came away with a 13-3 win. “They were able to outhit us,” said head coach Jesse Du- Arts Red Garter Willie & the Poor Boys B’ Wishes Friday, May 2 @ 5:30 p.m. 9 p.m. Fri. and Sat. Taylor’s Country Store gas. The Lady Cougars also played against Cascade Christian last Tuesday. The girls were able to hold off the Challengers with great teamwork and took the game, winning 16-11. Miliya Stewart and Keyanna Augustadt were a force to be reckoned with. Stewart pitched all seven innings, with Augustadt behind the plate making sure nothing got by. Mahkayla Som- mers and Erika Anderson each had two hits. Emily Deters had two hits that resulted in two RBI’s. Allison Primeau managed three hits and had four RBI’s. “This was a game I knew they could play,” said head coach Bobbie Loyd. “They were awesome. The IVHS lady softball squad is next scheduled to play against Lakeview while on the road on Saturday, May 3. On Friday, April 25, the baseball team hosted a game against St. Mary’s. In the bottom of the second inning, though, Mother Nature decided to dump a hailstorm on the game. The umpire called for a half hour break in hopes that the weather would clear up, but that didn’t happen and the game was called. The boys were set to finish the delayed game at the start of this week and travel to Rogue River to play against the Chief- tains on Tuesday, April 29.
