Baseball team gets wins, softball squad struggles By Jenna Larkin IVN Contributing Writer The IVHS softball squad kicked the week off with a game against North Valley at home on Tuesday, April 8. Even though the Cougars were enthusiastic about the game, they lost 5-14. North Valley put up good offense and was able to score ten runs in the first inning. “The girls stayed strong. This is the first time we have played all seven innings,” said head coach Bobbie Loyd. On Thursday, April 10, IVHS took on Lost River in another home game. With the girls improving with each game, they are gaining the con- fidence to work together as a team. “They have the ability to get a win, they just need more confidence in themselves,” said Loyd. Lost River was able to stay in control throughout the game, taking the win, 15-4. On Monday, April 14, the Lady Cougars went up against McKin- leyville during a home game. On Saturday, April 19 the girls are slat- ed to travel to Bandon/Pacific for a doubleheader. On the baseball side, the boys have made great strides in becom- ing a strong group. On Thursday, April, 10, the boys went up against Lost River, taking the win 8-3. Jason Bardeimeier, pitched the last five in- Arts Red Garter Where the Valley comes to play Karaoke - Dancing Live Music nings, helping take the Cougars to victory. Bardeimeier only allowed two hits, had eight strikeouts and only one walk during his time on the mound. Conrad Davis was Bardei- meier’s counterpart behind the plate, catching the strikes as they came. Andrew Sherier was able to go two for three and Bardeimeier went two for four. Lander Nordal hit a double in the first inning resulting in three runs. “The defense is lots better, the guys are getting there. Offensively, they are hitting the ball well but you always want to hit the ball more,” said head coach Jesse Dugas. On Saturday, April 12, the guys traveled to Glendale for a double- header. During the first game, both teams held strong and played well. Coach Dugas said that pitchers from both teams were strong and able to hold the runs to a minimum. Zach Welch pitched the whole game; he had a total of nine strike- outs and only four walks. The Cou- gars won the game 3-2. “Our bats came alive when we needed them to,” said Dugas. Lander Nordal pitched during the second game. Andrew Sherier, Zach Welch and Nordal all went two for four. Gus Klingbeil went two for three. The guys have a a doublehead- er in Bandon/Pacific on Saturday, April 19.
