All persons listed are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Charges can be amended or dismissed.) *** Tuesday, Jan. 21 *Shop Smart Food Warehouse in Cave Junction was the victim after a man, who is known, picked up a $25.98 bag of jerky and got $7.98 worth of hot fried chicken; then left the store without paying. *The peace was kept at 1:40 p.m. in the 7000 block of Rockydale Road. *Residential burglary was reported on Hogue Drive. The thief used a crowbar to open the front door; then loaded items into pillow cases. Missing are a two-burner stove (must have been a huge pillow case), bedding, spices, household items and other property. Outside of the Valley *Ten persons in rural GP locations phoned for various reasons including a two-vehicle noninjury accident, a man with dementia who wanted to drive a car, and a burglar alarm termed “beyond available resources” (BAR). GUNS & AMMO 541-592-3349 CHIEF’S CORNER The volunteers and staff of the Illinois Valley Fire District responded to these recent Emergency calls… By Dennis Hoke Fire Chief, Illinois Valley Fire District On Monday I returned from attending training at the Na- tional Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland. This is the pre- mier fire service training facility in the U.S., similar to the FBI academy for the law enforcement. I attended a course on how to analyze a fire district's emergency service delivery. This course is timely for me as we are currently working on our stra- tegic plan for the Illinois Valley Fire District. Every time I attend the Academy, I make a point to visit the National Fallen Fire Fighters Memorial located on the Acad- BestCrosswords.com - Puzzle #1 for January 26, 2014 Southern Oregon Sanitation Inc. Serving Southern Oregon for over 50 years! (800) 922-1025 Outside of the Valley *Numerous rural GP calls came in today. Plaques with hundreds of firefighter names honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice protecting the citi- zens of this country. This hallowed ground holds a special meaning for me. Some of the names posted there are of people I have met in my career. I have made it my life’s ambition to improve firefighter safety so that no more names are placed at the memorial. As a parent of two firefighters and Chief of the Illinois Valley Fire District, I take this responsibility person- ally. On Sunday, two firefighters were tragically killed fighting an apartment complex fire in Toledo, Ohio (two more names to be added to the memorial). Historically, about 100 firefighters die in the line of duty every year in the U.S. (more names to be added to memorial). As we work on our strategic planning for the Illinois Valley Fire District, our number one goal is to provide for the safety of each and every member of IVFD. We cannot afford to have any of our members added to the memorial! Until next time… http://www.bestcrosswords.com/bestcrosswords/printable/Home,printabl. Let’s be safe out there.
