All persons listed are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Charges can be amended or dismissed.) *** *Big day for calls (17) from rural Grants Pass. Two were complaints about stolen mail (one of those involving a 5-pound sack in a crashed car); another was from a woman who said that her estranged husband keeps entering her residence and steal- ing items even through she has changed the locks. Tuesday, Jan. 7 Wednesday, Jan. 8 *Near Lorna Byrne Middle School on S. Junction Avenue a Josephine County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) deputy had to kill a fox. It was not noted whether the animal was sick, rabid or injured. *A JCSO deputy and an OSP trooper responded to a single-vehicle crash at the top of Hay’s Hill reported at 1:04 p.m. It was noted that air bags deployed, and that the driver, a woman, was bleeding due a hand or arm injury; while her male passenger showed signs of shock. Considerable damage to a guardrail was noted. *Also at the school the deputy assisted a probation officer who was taking a youth into custody. *Although reported as the theft of a trailer from Dogwood Lane, it later seemed that the case might be a civil matter. An OSP trooper handled the call, and later the complainant phoned to say that she got the trailer back and to cancel the call. *From Crickett Lane off Walters Drive came a call from a man who felt that his emu had been stolen. There appeared to be confusion about the critter’s gender, as a woman accused by the man had females, but no males, and the man said that his emu was a male. *Advice on options was given to two elderly parents whose son locked them out of their residence on Dogwood Lane. The son was not present. *Following an alarm from the DMV office in Cave Junc- tion close to 1:30 p.m., the matter appeared to be employee error, although such was not noted on the log. *There was an intruder alarm in the 3600 block of Dick George Road at 1:17 p.m. SOS Alarm was contacting the home owner. *Otherwise it was a quiet day for JCSO with only three calls from rural Grants Pass. One was about a man who said that his mentally handicapped son “assumed biological male” was causing problems with threatening text messages about wanting to reunite after no contact for 22 years. Another of the calls was about a guy who jumped into the Rogue River to retrieve his drifting driftboat and about froze. Thursday, Jan. 9 *Some dolt wearing a hooded coat was reported walking on Westside Road and checking mailboxes. The volunteers and staff of the Illinois Valley Fire District responded to these recent Emergency calls… Friday, Jan. 10 *It was determined shortly after 8 a.m. that an alarm on Holland Loop was from the residence of a firefighter, and the 911 call-taker was trying to reach him. Josephine County Sher- iff’s Office termed the call “beyond available resources.” *An “incident of graffiti” on the Immanuel United Meth- odist Church building on Watkins Street was reported. *A cold case of trespassing was logged regarding a fore- closed house on Jonathan Court off S. Junction Avenue. The mortgage holder was going to send a crew to check the place. *There was a request for assistance from Illinois Valley High School after a student left the campus and was listed as a “runaway.” It was believed that he was on foot in Downtown Cave Junction. *Civil papers were served on Lone Mountain Road. *There were 12 calls to the sheriff’s office from rural GP areas including one involving a man who drove around a locked BLM gate on Bear Camp Road and then got stuck. He walked five miles to the Galice Store for help, saying that his daughter remained in his van. He felt that he had done nothing wrong, but it was explained to him that gates are locked for a reason. *A rabid fox on Pine Cone Drive was “dispatched.” I.V.
