Illinois Valley News, Cave Junction, Ore. Wednesday, June 15, 2011 Page A-3 From the mayor’s desk by Cave Junction Mayor Carl Jacobson Just a few comments. I would like to thank all of the property owners that have responded to our letter about cleaning up and cutting weeds and brush here in town. The City offers a place to take small limbs, leaves and grass cuttings for composting. The waste water treatment plant accepts compost material from Monday through Fri- day from 9:00 to 3:30. Call ahead, 541-592-4590, and let Mike know that you would like to drop off green waste. Cutting tall grass and weeds not only lessens the chance of having a wildfire, it makes our town look clean and appealing to tourists. My congratulations to the High School Seniors. I wish them well in whatever their field will be, and wish them a successful life. We don’t want to forget our stu- dents in Lorna Byrne Middle School and Evergreen Elementary that are moving up to the next level in their education. Now, as for the meeting with ODOT the other night. The City was asked by ODOT to use City Hall for an informational meeting to share what the final plans and construction for the River Street signal project would look like. This signal project has been a goal of the City for over 30 years. It was clear at the meeting that some people were unclear or misinformed about what the actual project would look like. While I am in agreement that everybody is entitled to their own opinion, some attending the ODOT open house were rude in their treatment of others at the meeting. Since we’re all trying to make this the best place it can be, I urge everyone to remain civil and respectful in their disagreements. Until next time have a good day and a better tomor- row.
