Whether people see them that way or not, the Holy Bible relates a num- ber of miracle stories. Readings assigned to a recent Sunday morning re- lated both the raising of a man named Lazarus from his grave, and a vision of the prophet Ezekiel that looked like an old war zone: a valley full of dry, lifeless bones. Through either situation Almighty God pulls off the extraor- dinary. The prophet’s vision points to the time when the people of Israel will be freed from their time of exile in Babylon to get back home and rebuild their country, cities, and Temple-worship-center. The resurrection of Jesus’ close friend Lazarus points to the time when all believ- ers in Christ will not only be raised up to life again, but will discover that the Lord has taken them into heaven itself. Plus, Lazarus’ resurrec- tion also hints at the real meaning of Easter. For, though Jesus would die by crucifixion at a place named Calvary, he would be raised up again three days later; confirming the spiritual fact that his death happened in order to for- give the sinfulness of all humankind who believe in him. Truly, the Bible re- lates miracle stories. DEATH NOTICES Neal Walter Kasiah, age 70, of Selma, died Friday, April 8, 2011 at his home. Arrangements are pending with Hull & Hull Funeral Directors.
