According to a news release, more than 60 dogs and cats of all ages and sizes are living at the shelter, with the recent addition of 13 horses that are up for adoption at no cost. “If you are looking or know of someone looking for a new friend to take home, please send them towards the Josephine County Animal Shelter,” the news release read. “These horses have to be off the foster property by the end of the month.” Photos of the animals can be found on the shelter’s Facebook page and on the county Periods of Sunshine High -- 48 Low -- 28 IV Lions club celebrates 63 years Sunday, Feb. 20 Partly Sunny & Warmer High -- 48 Low -- 27 Submitted by Steve Lyons District Governor Vicky Smith and her husband Richard, a past District Governor, visited the Illinois Valley Lions during the Tuesday, Feb. 8 meeting. Pancakes for parks The pancake breakfast fundraiser to improve Jubilee Park went far above all expectations Saturday, Feb. 12, with more than 250 people served. Several members of the Illinois Valley class of the Ford Leadership Development Institute, the Ford Family Foundation and others chipped in starting at 8 a.m. to serve pancakes, eggs, sausage and other breakfast food to help raise funds for phase one of the playground improvement project. The String Bean Band performed while people ate breakfast, and two of Suzanne Hamilton’s younger tap dance classes stole the show. The news release said that the shelter is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Thursday, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays by appointment. Valley resident Ann Padgett said enough people showed up that breakfast organizers had to buy more eggs and sausage. Illinois Valley High School students could also be seen bringing food to tables Saturday. Ford Leadership Institute members said during the Cave Junction city council meeting Feb. 14 that fundraising goals for the first stage of the Jubilee Park upgrades are close to being met. After installing play equipment for two- to five- year-olds, those involved with the park project hope to also install separate equipment for older children up to age 12.
