Tausaga sets the tone and as she goes, so does the team. “I was extremely proud of the girls -- they never gave up,” said head coach Roz Brown. “And that Emily Crutcher had a good game, she has improved so much.” The Pirates went on to score four more times in the second half to win 11-0. It was good to see ex- Cougar Kya McAlister play- ing soccer for the first time, but she would look better if she wore red, black and white. Never-the-less, those girls played their hearts out. On defense the Cougars al- ways were double-teamed to prevent shots on goal, and having an open player every time on offense really helped the Pirate scoring attack. Phoenix found the net seven times in the first half to take a 7-0 lead. Don’t let the high point total fool you. Xe- nia Velasco performed mag- nificently, holding Phoenix to seven goals with 21 saves.
