The 27th annual Wild Blackberry Arts & Crafts Festival was held in
Downtown Cave Junction and Jubilee Park on Saturday and Sunday,
Aug. 9 and 10. Blackberry goodies, bingo, live music, children's
activities and other attractions were featured. Mark Russo, who co-
ordinated the event with his wife, Judy, said that it was a good festi-

val, but that lower attendance than usual was disappointing. The
nonprofit programs in the park were quite successful, and the or-
ganizations including I.V. Family Coalition plan to be involved again
next year, he said. Russo noted that 40 percent of vendors who
signed up did not attend. There will be a 28th annual festival using
a similar format, Russo said. Views of the Jubilee Park events will be

Siskiyou Project
Cool mountain air and spectacular views will be highlights of a
leisurely 4-mile loop hike to Mt. Elijah and Bigelow Lakes Saturday,
Aug. 23.
Siskiyou Project ecologist Rich Nawa will lead hikers through
flower-filled meadows on the way to visit a population of the rare Cali-
fornia Globe Mallow (Iliamna latibracteata) and learn about conserva-
tion efforts to save the plant. Hikers also will have an opportunity to see
some of the area that will be included in the proposed expansion to the
Oregon Caves National Monument.
It will be an all-day moderate hike. with 900-foot elevation gain. A
car pool will leave Illinois Valley Visitor Center in Cave Junction) 9
a.m. Hikers are advised to bring lunch, snacks and plenty of water.
