Elijah and Bigelow Lakes Saturday, Aug. 23. Siskiyou Project ecologist Rich Nawa will lead hikers through flower-filled meadows on the way to visit a population of the rare Cali- fornia Globe Mallow (Iliamna latibracteata) and learn about conserva- tion efforts to save the plant. Hikers also will have an opportunity to see some of the area that will be included in the proposed expansion to the Oregon Caves National Monument. It will be an all-day moderate hike. with 900-foot elevation gain. A car pool will leave Illinois Valley Visitor Center in Cave Junction) 9 a.m. Hikers are advised to bring lunch, snacks and plenty of water.
