Page 9 Illinois Valley News, Cave Junction, OR Wednesday, October 31, 2007 Three treated after collision of vehicles in Downtown CJ Two Illinois Valley residents and a Bureau of Land Management law en- forcement officer were treated and released follow- ing a three-vehicle crash in Downtown Cave Junction. The accident on Wednesday, Oct. 24 was reported at 7:22 p.m. It oc- curred on Hwy. 199 at King’s Chinese Restaurant. A Josephine County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) pa- trol deputy responded to the collision. Also on-scene were Illinois Valley Fire District and American Medical Response (AMR). Drivers were identified as Erwin D. Akins and Stephen J. Horak, both 58; and Jason Stanton, a BLM contract deputy working for Josephine County Sheriff’s Office. The civilians were taken by AMR ambulance to Three Rivers Community Hospital in Grants Pass. The deputy apparently got there by some other means, and all three were reported “treated and re- leased.” Akins was to be cited on a charge of following too close, said JCSO. It appeared, and based on a witness statement, that one vehicle was facing south, waiting to make a left turn from 199 into the King’s Chinese parking lot. That vehicle apparently was struck from the rear. Indications were that because the wheels were turned left for the turn, that when the vehicle was struck, it was pushed onto the lanes for northbound traffic. That’s when the BLM pickup truck, with federal government license plates, became involved. Traffic was hampered for a time, as a civilian pickup truck involved ended up on the west side of 199 THE POWER of TOUCH adjacent to the Shop Smart Food Warehouse parking lot. And the BLM pickup truck and Horak’s van were on the east side of 199 in front of King’s Chinese Cuisine. The meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the board’s conference room in the county courthouse in Down- town Grants Pass. Commissioners are con- sidering a county fire district to protect those areas not currently in a fire district. Commission Chairman Jim Raffenburg believes that the county needs to be cau- tious in the matter. Wednesday, Oct. 17 *Mitchell Wayne Thornton II, 20, was cited on charges of driving with a suspended license (DWS) and lack of insurance in the 27000 block of Redwood Hwy. at 12:48 a.m. His ve- hicle was impounded. *Someone struck and damaged her new vehicle while it was parked in Downtown Cave Junction, a woman complained at 10 a.m. *Theft of a cell phone in Selma was reported for insurance purposes. *Doreen Lee Miller, 33, was lodged in Josephine County Jail on a post-prison supervisory authority war- rant after she was contacted at Illinois River “Forks” State Park. *Third-hand informa- tion about a reputed reposi- tory of stolen Toyota pickup trucks in Selma was re- ported. *An intoxicated 19- year-old man who was yell- ing and threatening people in the 24000 block of Red- wood Hwy. was told to leave, and warned about trespassing. *A Hanby Lane resi- dent complained that her neighbor has been taking dirt from her property to fill gaps under the fence, and she wanted him warned against trespassing. Both parties were advised of their options. *Aaron Lee Clouser, 33, was lodged in county jail on a probation violation charge after being accused of verbally abusing custom- ers at a Downtown CJ store. *Pamela Ann Murray, 46, was cited on a charge of violating a restraining order at a Dick George Road ad- dress and lodged in county jail. Thursday, Oct. 18 *Village idiots caused some $200 damage to a shed at Cave Junction Head Start on E. River Street. *Two men on Iron Way were reported fighting about dogs, which also had been fighting. Verbal threats to kill the aforementioned hounds were exchanged, according to the complain- ant. *A rural CJ resident said that a woman had phoned her requesting help, but that she does not know who the caller was or how to reach them. *Twice within 40 min- utes, some type of explosion could be heard and felt at a residence in the 8000 block of Caves Hwy., a caller said at 11:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19 *No reason was discov- ered for intrusion alarms and motion alarms activated at Lorna Byrne Middle School, Dave’s Outdoor Power Equipment and Stevereno’s Family Restaurant between 1:05 and 1:18 a.m. *Fuel valued at $175 was taken from U-Haul trucks in Downtown CJ by people who need Golden Rule lessons. *An “older woman” backed into a pickup truck at O’Brien Store, moving it 5 feet, causing a large dent and the license plate to fall off. The caller stated that a witness saw the incident. *A yellow Chevy pickup truck with a full tank of fuel was reported stolen from an O’Brien residence. *An intoxicated young man was said to be sitting in the rain on S. Saturday, Oct. 20 *A rural CJ man re- ported his wife missing, but her employer stated that she “elected not to go home.” *A red Toyota pickup with a black camper shell was reported stolen from a Deer Creek Road residence. *“Some type of bomb” had been discharged for the past three nights, stated a caller from the 7000 block of caves Hwy. *Information about a rural Illinois Valley mush- room dealer was forwarded to Josephine Interagency Narcotics Team. *Several bottles of hard liquor were stolen from a Downtown CJ lounge by alcoholic, thirsty thieves who kicked in a door, caus- ing $200 damage. Sunday, Oct. 21 *Christina Annette Griggs, 44, was cited on charges of DWS and driving uninsured. *Some women were said to be fighting behind a CJ bar at 2 a.m., but half the party left prior to a deputy’s arrival, and the remainder didn’t want to press charges. *Swerving to miss a bear, a driver took his vehi- cle into an embankment in the 20000 block of Red- wood Hwy., it was reported at 3:14 a.m. *Three people were contacted and advised of hours at “Forks” State Park at quarter to 7 p.m. *Three numbers from the license plate of the car which struck another on Redwood Hwy. at Hamilton Lane were imprinted on the victim’s vehicle. He was warned about altering li- cense plates, and his vehicle was impounded. Tuesday, Oct. 23 *Some 80 feet of cop- per ground wire in 18- to 36-inch sections was re- ported stolen from Pacific Power’s Illinois Valley sub- station on Old Stage Road. *Rounds of copper wire, valued at $100, were stolen from the new O’Brien sub- station. Genius-type thieves caused $1,000 damage to a gate to acquire the wire. *Timothy Quinn Guillory, 19, was cited on W.
