The actual date for a statewide in-service day, which means that there will be no classes, is Friday, Oct. 12. (Really!) How did it happen? It occurred due to a misunderstanding when gathering information on exactly which Friday was in- volved. Special Thanks to the volunteers Fire damages Laughing Clam Three fire engines were among responding emer- gency units to an arson fire behind Blind George’s that damaged the rear of The Laughing Clam restaurant in Grants Pass. Some $7,000 damage was caused to the building and contents, estimated Grants Pass Dept. of Public Safety (GPDPS). The blaze was reported Sunday, Oct. 7 at 8:34 p.m. as a dumpster fire behind Blind George’s. First units reported a fully involved dumpster with extension to Loretta Emma Herr O’Brien resident Loretta Emma Herr, 94, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2007 at a Grants Pass nursing home. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 17 be- ginning at 1 p.m. at the Sev- enth-day Adventist Church in Cave Junction. Interment will follow at Laurel Cemetery in Cave Junction. Illinois Valley Funeral Directors is in charge of ar- rangements. Margery Joan Burklacich Margery Joan Burklacich, 72, of Cave Junction, died Sat- urday Sept. 29, 2007 at her home. Mrs. Burklacich was born Sept. 20, 1935 in Winthrop, Wash. She grew up in the Applegate area of Josephine County. She lived in Medford and Grants Pass, but primarily lived in Reno, Nev., and Cave Junction most of her life. She married Forrest “Jack” Stroh on Feb. 4, 1961. They later divorced, and he died in 2002. She married Mi- chael Burklacich in 1972 in Reno. He survives.
