Charges can be amended or dismissed.) * * * Wednesday, Aug. 1 *A woman used a Selma public phone at 12:11 a.m. to report that she’d been assaulted by her boy- friend and his brother, re- sulting in a split lip and many bruises. She said they blamed her for the death of their dog. *Three people in a light-blue Chevy pickup truck were said to be tossing apples at other vehicles on Redwood Hwy. in Down- town Cave Junction around 12:30 a.m. *Someone threw rocks through the windows of ve- hicles for sale in the 3000 block of Rockydale Road. *Keys in a backpack within an unlocked vehicle on Illinois River Road near Snailback Trailhead proba- bly were helpful to the thieves who took off with a couple’s car around 3 p.m. *Just before 7 p.m. a woman was reported walk- ing in and out of traffic on Holland Loop with her dog. *A Lone Mountain Road resident reported re- ceiving telephoned death threat. *A man who refused to leave her residence in the 27000 block of Redwood Hwy. grabbed her face and kissed her, a woman com- plained at 9:24 p.m. *Robert James Myer, 37, was lodged in Josephine County Jail on charges of first-degree attempted bur- glary and second-degree criminal trespassing. He was also “trespassed” from the Junction Inn and adjacent properties after a complaint that he attempted to gain access to the office and re- fused to leave as directed. *The mother of a 16- year-old girl reportedly caught her daughter attempt- ing to sneak out of her bed- room just before midnight. It was suspected that she was going to meet a boy. Mom was advised of her options. Thursday, Aug. 2 *Theft of a $3,000 mo- torcycle from a Caves Ave- nue residence was reported. *While she was busy at a coin-operated laundry in CJ, someone stole $50 from her wallet, a woman claimed. *A Thompson Creek Road resident reported that his ram had been shot in one leg. *Observed by a deputy to be operating a vehicle, Edwin Scott Obed, 40, was cited on a charge of driving with a suspended license (DWS). *Witnesses said that a “blond, female driver” backed into another vehicle when leaving an establish- ment at Western Plaza around 10 p.m., causing some $1,000 damage. She later was located at another Downtown CJ establish- ment, where she and the owner of the offended vehi- cle reached civil compro- mise. Friday, Aug. 3 *In the matter of a bounced check, a man and woman were said to be ar- guing on Ollis Road. He left prior to a deputy’s arrival, and she refused to press charges. *Though it didn’t ap- pear entry had been gained, it was reported that someone attempted to break into a business in the 27000 block of Redwood Hwy. *Roy V. Vance, 37, was cited on a charge of DWS on Kerby Avenue at 12:37 p.m. *A 1932 Chevy coupe believed stolen from a Reeves Creek Road address was located in a locked building on Althouse Drive. Those responsible were ad- vised against trespassing at the Reeves Creek address. *An O’Brien resident complained that her neighbor drives too fast on their shared driveway and nearly struck one of her children. *A mountain bike found by a motel guest was taken to the I.V. Substation for safekeeping. *Some fool shot a hole through a mailbox on Deer Creek Road. *In connection with a hit-and-run with property damage the night before, Debra Ann Elder Lambeth, 54, was cited on a charge of failure to leave name at the scene of an accident and was said to have provided false information about insurance. *Voluble and intoxi- cated, a woman was “trespassed” from a CJ lounge for refusing to leave. Saturday, Aug. 4 *Some form of intoxi- cated disturbance, which might have been a fight, occurred in and around a CJ bar and was reported at 1:04 a.m. Eventually the situation broke up and settled down. *“Highly intoxicated,” a man seen lying near Lake- shore Drive holding his face was given a ride home. *Cassandra Diane Grow, 22, was cited feder- ally on charges of posses- sion of controlled sub- stances (PCS: methampheta- mine and marijuana) at the green bridge on Eight Dollar Mountain Road. *In connection with a roll-over accident on Illinois River Road, Dustin Paul Taetz, 23, was cited on charges of PCS/less than an ounce of marijuana, unlaw- ful possession of a firearm, and failure to carry proof of insurance. A passenger, Crystal Ann Oryrchal, 20, was cited on a charge of PCS/less than an ounce of marijuana. A Jeep was im- pounded. *Also involved in the preceding Illinois River Road accident, Curtis James Carr, 20, was cited on a charge of minor in posses- sion of alcohol. *Her boyfriend head- butted her, resulting in a knot on her skull, said a woman at a campsite on Illinois River. She declined medical assistance, and did not press charges. Sunday, Aug. 5 *A man reported that a vehicle had been taken from his property on Hogue Drive. He was advised that the car had been towed as a hazard three days earlier on I-5 near Salem. Monday, Aug. 6 *Some 13 miles up Caves Hwy. three “telephone batteries” valued at $1,000 apiece were re- moved, and a solar panel was damaged. *At CJ City Hall at 3:28 p.m. a woman was yelling about her water bill and said she’d cut the lock off her meter. It was a civil dispute. *Traffic “piled up” for a time due to a car fire near the KOA site at the bottom of Hay’s Hill. *A mountain lion just ate one of her goats, and the llamas were “going wild,” reported a woman in the 1400 block of Rockydale Road at 7:11 p.m. She said that the wild cat was still chomping as she phoned. *There was an audible alarm from an investment business on N. Sawyer Ave- nue at 7:41 p.m. *After claiming that a man slapped him, the com- plainant at a Selma business said that he didn’t want to deal with the assigned dep- uty because he previously had arrested him. *It was a case of sec- ond-degree burglary after a man on Kerby Mainline reported the loss of “very expensive tools brand-new in a box.” He needed to file a report for his insurance. Tuesday, Aug. 7 *Items valued at $2,000 were reported stolen from a car at a Downtown CJ busi- ness. Jewelry was included. *One of two boys was detained by a home owner on N. Boundary Avenue after he saw them kicking over trash cans and spread- ing the contents around. The boy, 15, could be charged with third-degree criminal mischief. *An audible alarm sounded in the 3600 block of Dick George Road at 1:37 p.m., but all was OK. *A bunch of people in a car were having a distur- bance headed toward Grants Pass from Cave Junction. *Following an anony- mous complaint about a woman with two small chil- dren not in proper restraints in CJ, she was contacted. There were car and booster seats in the car, but they needed repair or replacement. *Four juvenile people on bicycles caused $25 damage to a motor home in CJ by throwing rocks. The complainant said that it is a continuing problem. *Two an ony mou s “threatening” phone calls were received by a Takilma Road resident. A woman said, “This is what I’m do- ing to your daughter,” and then the complainant heard groaning and music. *Employee theft was reported by a supervisor at a CJ business. A pack of ciga- rettes was believed to be involved. *After reporting a girl, 14, as a runaway juvenile in Selma, she was located. Wednesday, Aug. 8 *Problems with “transients,” some eight to 10 of them, were reported at a church in CJ. They had been warned several times. *A Kerby address was to be visited by Oregon Dept. of Human Services workers to check on a com- plaint about something. *In Jubilee Park, a dep- uty flagged down by some- one found a man “passed out sleeping in the sun” at 7:27 p.m. *In the 6000 block of Takilma Road a resident was concerned that someone might be in a vehicle on his property. A deputy checked, but the car was gone. *After being flagged down at 8:02 p.m. by a woman at Takilma and Dick George roads, a deputy fired one shot to dispatch a fawn the woman had struck with her car. PATTON JR C O N S T 541 • R U C T 476-2127 I O Altercation concludes with trespass, assault charges An altercation at the Hugo home of land-use ac- tivist Holger Sommer re- sulted in another man being charged with assault and trespassing, said Josephine County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO). Grants Pass resident Donald W. “Don” Johnson, 72, was taken to Three Riv- ers Community Hospital in Grants Pass by American Medical Response after the incident, reported by Som- mer, 57, at 4:43 p.m. on Fri- day, Aug. 10, according to JCSO. Johnson was cited and released on charges of fourth-degree assault, and second-degree criminal tres- pass, said JCSO. Sommer said that when he saw a man near his guest house he asked if he could help him. “I didn’t know who it was,” he said, “as I’d never met Don Johnson be- fore then.” The complainant contin- ued that Johnson introduced himself and said he “had heard that I had called him a liar” during a meeting. “I told him that I had not, and that he should listen to the recording of the meeting, which he did not attend,” said Sommer. “I asked him to leave three times,” he said, “and then he slapped the tele- phone out of my hand. He swung at me twice, and the second time he hit my glasses, causing a gash. And I have a black eye.” Sommer said he then defended himself and “took him out.” It was reported that Johnson struck his head on asphalt and “he was un- conscious for about five minutes,” Sommer said. “I checked his pulse and called 911,” he added. Sommer said he thinks that Johnson was referring to a meeting in connection with Pioneer Meadows. Sommer is known for his appearances before various city and county agencies providing information about land-use issues. Some have been referred to the state Land Use Board of Appeals. A phone call to Johnson seeking comment was not returned. Currently a con- sultant, he is retired from Rough & Ready Lumber Co. in Cave Junction.
