Bassett Visitation for Takilma native Savannah Pauline Bas- sett, 18, who died in a car crash, will be held Thursday, June 21 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Illinois Val- ley Funeral Directors chapel in Cave Junction; and Friday, June 22 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors chapel in Grants Pass. A memorial service for Savannah will be held Friday, June 22 at 11 a.m. in the Illi- nois Valley High School cafe- teria. Arrangements are being handled by Illinois Valley Fu- neral Directors. She died in a motor vehi- cle accident on Takilma Road on Monday, June 11, 2007. Remembrances can be made to I.V. Pool Committee, P.O. Box 383, Cave Junction OR 97523. She was raised in Cave Junction, and attended Ever- green Elementary and Lorna Byrne Middle schools. She graduated from Illinois Valley High School on June 5, 2007. At IVHS she was a cheer- leader all four years, and was on the competition team during her senior year. She was involved with the Swing Choir all four years, and was a Cougar Pal, serving as a mentor to elemen- tary-age children. Until her senior year she was a member of Awana Clubs International. She planned on attending Linfield College in McMinn- ville as an art history major. She especially enjoyed photogra- phy, art, traveling and reading. Savannah is survived by her parents, Deelia & Scott Warner, of Cave Junction; three brothers, Joshua, of Bend, and Derek and Sam, of Cave Junc- tion; a sister, Nisha, of Cave Junction; and her grandparents, Patsy Mae Bassett, of Salem, Frank Cooke, of Cave Junction, Patricia Hunt, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Hank Warner, of Cave Junction, and Dixie & Norm Cegelnik, of Selma. Her father, Chris Allen Bassett, died in 2002. Kiara Richardson A celebration of life for 16-year-old Kiara Alexi Mysti- cal Faith Richardson, who died in a car crash Monday, June 11, 2007 on Takilma Road, will begin at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 21 at 3833 Holland Loop in Cave Junction. Arrangements are under St. Patrick of the Forest Catholic Church Sunday, June 24 will mark the Nativity of St. John the Bap- tist: Elizabeth gave birth to a son to be named Zechariah after his father. But Elizabeth said that he was to be called John. Relatives protested and asked the mute father, who wrote, “John is his name,” and all were amazed. Then his tongue was freed and he spoke, blessing God. Kiara was born on Oct. 12, 1990 in Hilo, Hawaii. She moved from Hawaii to Cave Junction in 1992. She attended the former Selma Elementary School for one year, then Ever- green Elementary School and Lorna Byrne Middle School, both in Cave Junction. She had just completed her junior year at Illinois Valley High School. While in middle school she played volleyball. In high school she served as assistant manager for the volleyball team; and she was a member of the Swing Choir and Key Stone Career Club. Kiara also was a member of the Boys & Girls Club, and was a Josephine County 4-H Club member in cooking, and in swine with the Three Rivers Livestock Club. She attended various church youth groups. She enjoyed painting and was known as being spiritually creative. She enjoyed singing and volunteering to help chil- dren. She was known for loving people, life and her Lord, the family said. Surviving are her parents, Michelle and Jimi Richardson, of Cave Junction; her biological father, Noel Sambrana, of Coa- linga, Calif.; two sisters, Savan- nah Richardson and Charity Richardson, both of Cave Junc- tion; a brother, Nathaniel Sam- brana, of Grants Pass; her grandparents, Ken Clarke, of O’Brien, Jacque & Ted Doney, of Cave Junction, Bryan & Angele Holm, of Brookings, Terry Davis, of Pahoa, Hawaii, and Janie Fantacoloma, of Franklin, Ill.; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Margie Sambrana. Glenn W. Harvill A celebration of the life of former Cave Junction Dairy Queen co-owner Glenn W. Harvill, 78, a Grants Pass resi- dent who died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007, in Rancho Mirage, Calif., will be held at R-Haus Restau- rant in Grants Pass on Sunday, June 24 at 2 p.m. Mr. Harvill was born on June 22, 1928, in San Jose, Calif. to George and Ora Harvill. He served in the U.S. Army for two years during the Korean War. He worked 25 years in the lumber industry. He also worked 16 years in partnership with Jim McCracken as owner/ operator of Cave Junction Dairy Queen. They retired in 1992. He leaves behind his com- panion, Jim McCracken. He is survived by a brother, Stephen Wilden, of Astoria, Ore.; three sisters, Sharon Woods and Trudy Zelenka, both of Scio, Ore., and Sheila Passenger, of Goldendale, Wash. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Fern Morley; and a brother, Karl Harvill. Crystal Dick A funeral service was held Saturday, June 9 for former Cave Junction resident and Illinois Valley school teacher Crystal Darlene Prine Dick, 71, who died Sunday, June 3, 2007 at her home in Evanston, Wyo. Interment was conducted at Evanston Cemetery follow- ing The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints service in the Almy Ward chapel in Evanston. Crystal was born in Soda Springs, Idaho on March 25, 1936 to William and Ethel Prine. Her family moved to Prineville, where she grew up in the town named after a great-uncle. She attended Crook County High School, and then Brigham Young Uni- versity in Rexburg, Idaho; and earned her degree in secondary education. She taught at Doug- las High School and then at Illinois Valley High School in Cave Junction, where she met her husband and eternal com- panion, Stanley “Stan” Dick. They were married on June 18, 1960, and one year later had their marriage solem- nized in the LDS Idaho Falls Temple. The couple remained devoted to each other for 47 years of married life. After raising her children to adoles- cence, Crystal returned to work, teaching physical educa- tion and home economics for 16 years at Lorna Byrne Mid- dle School in Cave Junction. She felt fortunate to work with Stan, who taught P.E. and woodshop. They were active in the LDS Church, Cave Junc- tion Ward. Crystal retired in 1994; and she and Stan eventually moved to Prineville, then several places in Utah (American Fork and Vernal), and Rock Springs, Wyo. They settled in Evanston in 2001 to be near their children and grandchildren and to enjoy the country lifestyle where they felt at home. She was known as a lov- ing mother, wife, grandmother, aunt and friend. Crystal stayed active in her community and church all her life. Her family said that few people came in contact with her who didn’t remember her smile and her genuine concern for them, as she loved everyone uncondi- tionally and made friends eas- ily wherever she went. Her faith, her family and her friends assisted her through the rough times during her three-and-a-half year battle with cancer. Crystal is survived by her husband, Stan; two sons, Darnell Dickson, of Orem, Utah, and Darren Dickson, of Altamont, Utah; two daughters, Darcell Estes, of Charlotte, N.C., and Darlena Dickson, of Orem; a sister, Pamela Prine, of Central Point; a brother, Joe Prine, of Springfield; and eight grandchildren. Kulongoski has signed Senate Bill 362 to ex- pand the Oregon Prescription Drug Program to include the private sector, labor unions and all underinsured Orego- nians who lack full prescrip- tion drug coverage. “By pooling the buying power of individuals for pre- scriptions, we are working together to help thousands of Oregonians leverage better prices for their medicines and save hundreds of dollars a year,” said Kulongoski. “Private employers and unions can now take advan- tage of the value pricing that this program has negotiated on behalf of its members.” The Oregon Prescription Drug Program was estab- lished during 2003 to help low-income uninsured Ore- gonians older than 54 afford the high cost of prescription drugs. Through the power of bulk purchasing for prescrip- tions, and by pooling re- sources, the state is able to negotiate lower prices for prescriptions than what indi- viduals and businesses nor- mally could negotiate.
