Deep sleep can’t be beat
As Baby Boomers begin
turning 60 during 2006, get-
ting a good night’s sleep will
be critical to maintaining
productive, healthy lives.
As people age, sleep
deprivation becomes more
of a problem, affecting a
person’s physical health,
emotional well-being, men-
tal ability and job perform-
ance.

The Laureate Beta Beta
Scholarship Program, open
to Illinois Valley High
School students, has an ap-
plication deadline of April 1.

Pass City Council celebrated
Valentine’s Day with a
dance hosted by Laureate
Beta Beta at the fairgrounds
in Grants Pass. The evening
included dancing to music
from Clear Channel Enter-
tainment, appetizers, door
prizes and a “Be My Valen-
tine” basket raffle.

ing on Wednesday, March 1

Cerecedes will present
“Medicinal Mushrooms and
Ancient Secrets of Fungi,” a
multimedia presentation.

latest cutting-edge science,
as well as the value of fungi

Downtown Cave Junction.
“Dragomir’s research
and her intuition includes
the theory that the 400 years
of witch hunts have affected
the psychology of women
and men in many aspects of
their lives and continues to
keep them silenced and
afraid to declare their intui-
tive healing powers,” said
the alliance.
Dragomir teaches writ-
ing, speaking, spirituality
and politics at Southern Ore-
gon University at Ashland.
Previously, she taught com-
munication courses and
worked for human rights in
a variety of arenas, from
documentaries to non-
violent protest, across the
United States and in Nepal.
Dragomir is a published
writer and an award-
winning news broadcaster.
She holds a master’s
degree in speech from the
University of Hawaii and
has completed course work
toward a doctorate in politi-
cal communication from the
University of Washington at
Seattle. Her academic writ-
ing focuses on spirituality,
politics and interpersonal
and intercultural communi-
cation.

The club appreciates the
community for everything it
has done to make the trip to
Mexico in July a reality.
“As of now, we are so
close,” said adviser Jaime
Szijjarto. “Our students have
recycled every bottle, col-
lected every penny, sold
every Krispy Kreme donut,
given up every Christmas
and birthday cent, and of-
fered every service available
to make it to Mexico.
“With their hard work
and the community help and
donations, we have raised
enough money for more
than half of the students to
travel (remember, this is a
large goal). We have more
fund-raisers planned, and
more students trying to go.
“We would like at least
10 of our hard-working stu-
dents to be able to reap the
fruits of their labors. Our
deadline is just a few weeks
away, and with a little more
help, we will actually make
it to the Yucatan Peninsula
on July 17.”
