Charges can be amended or dismissed.) * * * Thursday, June 30 *On Ollis Road a man said he was awakened at 4 a.m. by a noise outside his bedroom window and was suspicious of the occupants of a small white pickup truck which was driven away very slowly when he yelled at them. *Another Ollis Road resi- dent reported that her purse had been stolen from her bedroom. The thief, who gained entry through a screened window, made off with cash, keys, credit cards and a cell phone. *A third caller from Ollis Road said she believes that someone attempted to enter her residence, as the screen door was left open. *Video surveillance re- corded a suspect using an ATM card that was inside a purse reported stolen from a residence on E. River Street the day before. *A stolen vehicle was recovered on a powerline road near Redwood Hwy. and Lau- rel Road. *Around 8 p.m. a man on E. River Street said that his son, “high on crank,” was “out of control; threatening and yelling” at family members. The 23-year-old man was warned about trespassing at the residence. *Teen-agers were seen on the roof at Evergreen Elemen- tary School around 10 p.m. Friday July 1 *On E. River Street at quarter to 4 p.m., a woman said that a man parked a car on her driveway and walked away toward Redwood Hwy. *Several “transient” per- sons, who appeared to have been drinking, were having a loud argument in an alley be- hind a business in the 100 block of S. Redwood Hwy. *Justin Leavitt, 34, was arrested and cited to appear on a charge of third-degree theft and warned of trespassing at Shop Smart Food Warehouse around noon. *On E. River Street, a neighbor suspected of having stolen a bike earlier this morn- ing returned it to its former location. *Her boyfriend’s ex- girlfriend assaulted her, a woman said, hitting her several times in the head. *Some $1,200 had been fraudulently taken from a woman’s checking account in Cave Junction, she reported at the I.V. Substation. *Carrol M. Vanrossum, 25, was cited on two federal charges of endangering child passengers and warned for driving with a suspended li- cense (DWS) on Illinois River Road at 5:30 p.m. *Several minors in posses- sion of alcohol (MIP) were cited on federal charges of the same at Store Gulch and McCaleb Ranch on Illinois River Road this evening. *What sounded like two gunshots were heard in the vicinity of Ollis Road at quar- ter after 9 p.m. Saturday, July 2 *Christopher George Grif- fin, 25; and Eric Shawn Miller, 32, were cited on federal charges of being in a closed area in the 3000 block of Eight Dollar Mountain Road. *Jimmy Jay Miller, 31, was arrested on Illinois River Road and charged with at- tempting to elude, reckless driving, open container and being on a closed road. Miller also was wanted for a warrant charging failure to comply with terms of probation. He was taken to Josephine County Jail. *When a woman in the 27000 block of Redwood Hwy. asked a man taking measure- ments near her fence what they were for, he was “defensive and rude” and said she would “just have to wonder.” *Darrell Lee Wilbanks, 30, was lodged in Josephine County Jail on a misdemeanor charge of DWS, and his dirt bike towed from the 7000 block of Illinois River Road. He was also cited on federal charges of operating an ATV on a paved roadway. *Last seen headed toward the river around 11 p.m., an intoxicated man in a white T- shirt (pants?) was said to have nearly caused an accident on Redwood Hwy. at Glendon Road by walking into the path of several cars. Sunday, July 3 *Shortly after midnight, an “hysterical” woman re- ported that a man had hit her in the face outside a CJ bar. Two counts of fourth-degree assault were referred to the Josephine County D.A.’s office. *Amid the preceding inci- dent, a man phoned 911 asking to be put through to OSP, be- cause he wanted “to make a complaint about deputies har- assing people” during the situa- tion. He was warned for disor- derly conduct and misuse of an emergency line. *A “large piece of metal” was thrown through a 4-by6- foot window at Giant Burger, resulting in $350 damage, the owner reported. *Ransacked while the owners were on vacation, a residence in the 22000 block of Redwood Hwy. yielded a gun, jewelry and tools. Arrested in connection and charged with first- and second-degree bur- glary, first-degree theft and unauthorized use of a vehicle was Diane Marie Sheldon, 38, who was lodged in county jail. *While at a restaurant in Downtown CJ, a woman saw a man attempt to pay in pennies, which the clerk refused. Ac- cording to the caller, the man said, “I hope your mother has a child that will live,” which the caller took to be a threat. *Aerial fireworks were reported in Selma at 10:30 p.m. Monday, July 4 *In the 400 block of S. Redwood Hwy., a woman awoke at 1:30 a.m. to find in her room a man wearing black shorts, a red checkered shirt and something over his head. He stole her purse and took off. *Hostile and causing a disturbance at Lake Selmac at 3:30 a.m., Antonio Maitreya Nelton, 32, was arrested and lodged on a warrant from Eugene charging failure to appear (FTA). *No entry was made to the building, but someone broke a door, resulting in $200 in dam- age at Speedy Mart, it was reported. *On Page Creek Road a man said that a woman had been tampering with water pipes leading to his place from the river. He was advised of his civil options. *“Very loud fireworks were shaking the whole neighborhood,” a Kerby resi- dent complained sometime after 1 p.m. *A woman in Kerby said that a man was standing on her front yard yelling at her, in violation of a restraining order. *Motorists on Illinois River Road were warned about driving behavior around 6 p.m. *Concerned about fire danger, a caller reported seeing a pickup truck with a fire- works-filled bed at Seats Dam. *Near the green bridge on Finch Road, a man said that someone took his cell phone without permission after he helped them get their vehicle unstuck from the mud. *William A. Harvey, 34, was arrested on a warrant charging FTA on an original charge of DWS. He was also cited for speeding, DWS, and expired tags on Redwood Hwy. at Wildpark Lane at 8:30 p.m. *Her ex-sister-in-law took her vehicle without permission, according to a woman on Schumacher Street. *Some 200 to 300 people were said to be gathered in front of Holland Store around 10:30 p.m. shooting fireworks into the air. Only about 10 peo- ple were there when a deputy arrived 20 minutes later. *Two drivers were warned for speeding and one for a de- fective headlight in the Four Corners area of Takilma Road around 11 p.m. Tuesday, July 5 *On Boundry Lane, an X- Box game system valued at $170 was reported burgled by someone who entered through an open window. *Calling from Hwy. 199 as soon as he had cell phone reception, a driver reported that a northbound RV with Florida license plates had caused an accident with a southbound semitruck in California, but did not stop. CHP was advised of the accident, and an attempt was made to locate the RV. *On S. Sawyer Avenue a man reported theft of a chain come-along valued at $250. *A stolen vehicle was recovered on Kerby Street. *Occasional gunshots from the vicinity of Seats Dam provoked a call at 7 p.m. *At a latitude of 42.0001- degrees north and longitude 123.733-degrees West, other- wise known as the 38000 block of Redwood Hwy. a child pushed the OnStar button in a brand-new black Hummer three times, activating the emergency call system. *Recovered in the bushes in the 6000 block of Rockydale Road, a stolen pickup truck was drivable, but the stereo was missing. Wednesday, July 6 *People who moved a camp trailer onto a piece of property in Selma without per- mission were told to move out. *Robert Dean Hiler Jr., 24, was cited on a charge of lack of an operator’s permit in the 300 block of Caves Hwy. at 12:30 p.m. *License plates belonging to another vehicle were seized from a car parked on N. Boun- dry Ave. at Schumacher Street. *Struck with a baseball bat, a man was said to be bleeding profusely from his head in the 200 block of S. Redwood Hwy. at 4:20 p.m. The victim left and could not be located by medics or a dep- uty, despite a search of the area. *Mary Lou Kastens, 57, was cited on a charge of driv- ing under the influence of in- toxicants (DUII) following a single-vehicle MVA on Lone Mountain Road at Naue Way at quarter to 6 p.m. *On Honeybee Lane a red-haired man threatened an- other man’s life in a dispute over money, a caller claimed. *A crowd gathered to watch two men fighting near a Downtown CJ business at 7:45 p.m., but dispersed before a deputy could arrive. *Two callers complained of bottle rockets being fired on S. Kerby Avenue. Thursday, July 7 *Certain that noise she heard “was not fireworks,” a caller reported hearing gun- shots on S. Kerby Avenue. *No “rogue deputies” were welcome to respond to a Caves Hwy. address, a caller said, somewhat cryptically. He was upset because, he claimed, another man had pointed a pistol at him, then fired into the ground in front of him. *“Employee error” caused an alarm to sound at Fountain of Life Assembly of God church at 9 a.m. *Her boyfriend’s mother calls and threatens her and screams obscenities, a 17-year- old girl complained. *Somebody had a baseball bat and it looked as though there was gonna’ be a fight on N. Hussey Ave. around 6 p.m., but then the scene broke up. *A driver ran his auto into a woman’s vehicle parked in the 200 block of N. Redwood Hwy.; admitted himself to be without a driver’s license or insurance; and then fled. *From Simmons Cut Drive at 8:30 p.m. a caller re- ported a strong, sulfuric-like odor, “like a lot of matches,” in the neighborhood. Friday, July 8 *Several people were “doing meth” in a trailer in the 33000 block of Redwood Hwy., a caller suspicioned. *When a man attempted to contact two girls on Rocky- dale Road, they became scared and ran. The man chased them, yelling and screaming, until they went to a house on Martin Road. The man was last seen heading toward Downtown CJ around 3:15 p.m. *On Illinois River Road, Kevin David Rhodes, 24, was cited at 4:44 p.m. on a charge of DWS, and warned about having an unregistered vehicle and no insurance. *Someone on S. Kerby Ave. had been setting off fire- works for four days, and the complainant had had enough at 5:30 p.m. *Amanda Renee Lynn Maxwell, 20, was cited on a federal charge of possession of a controlled substance/ marijuana on Illinois River Road at 6:30 p.m. *A woman on Ollis Road was concerned about the wel- fare of another woman, who had a bloody, bruised eye, said to be caused by her boyfriend.
