Page 8 Illinois Valley News, Cave Junction, OR Wednesday, December 29, 2004 Airport work noted at two Contractors worked all summer at the Grants Pass Airport in Merlin laying new asphalt and rehabilitat- ing deteriorating asphalt. “We’ve weathered the ups and downs of major asphalt projects,” said Alex Grossi, director of Josephine County Airports, “and have now completed $900,000 of much-needed asphalt work.” The projects included two new taxi lanes to serve 24 new hangars and an addi- tion to the taxiway for a to- tal of 95,000 square feet of new asphalt. Long overdue asphalt rehabilitation called for an overlay of 80,000 square feet of the main apron, a pilot services area. “This is the largest renovation since the airport was dedicated in 1960,” said Grossi. The next project at the Grants Pass Airport was an overlay of the main airport parking lot. Josephine County commissioners des- ignated Title III money to pay for this project. An FAA grant is help- ing fund $300,000 in im- provements at Illinois Val- ley Airport. Work began in Septem- ber. It includes the addition of a new taxi lane to accom- modate two new hangars and four planned hangars. New shoulder rocking was applied all the way around the runway for added safety, and the last 4,000 feet was crack-sealed, slurry-coated and restriped. Added to work done in the spring by Oregon Dept. of Aviation, this will finish all the permanent asphalt rehab work for the airport. Illinois Valley Commu- nity Response Team is con- structing a business incuba- tor in the Illinois Valley Air- port Industrial park this fall to help new businesses get started and existing busi- nesses with expansion. The I.V. Airport has a new restaurant, The Strip, which is open Mondays and Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m; Fridays and Satur- days 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Sundays noon to 6 p.m. It is closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
