The crash on Holland Loop at Fort Briggs apparently occurred due to wet pavement and excess speed, said IVFD Deputy Chief Jeff Gavlik. There were three people in the pickup truck, and none of them were transported by AMR, said Gavlik. Youth Wrestling, which sponsors the competi- tion, raises its own funds through various activi- ties. The concession stand for the day-long event was sponsored by Shop Smart Food Ware- house. First-, second-, and third-place medals were awarded to victori- ous wrestlers. Selmac Burn Day set Dec. 11 by FAC “Come have some fun at Lake Selmac,” said Cave Junction-based Forestry Action Committee (FAC), which is sponsoring a Com- munity Volunteer Burn Day. The event is to help Josephine County Parks & Recreation Dept. dispose of several hundred burn piles left over from fuels reduc- tion work last year. To reach the site, turn east onto Lakeshore Drive a half-mile south of Selma and go approximately 4 miles. Just past the Lake Sel- mac Resort, turn right (south) onto McMullen Creek Road. Go 300 feet to the first right turn into the park, Hickenbottom Road, and then travel approxi- mately 700 feet to the park- ing area. Someone will be present to direct participants. “Come join the fun at this first-time event,” said FAC. They were identified as U.S. Army Spec. Jeremy Christensen, hometown not available, although he is from Oregon; and Sgt. David Mitts, of Hammond. He was a member of 3rd Battalion 21st Infantry. At the direction of Gov. Kulongoski, flags are flown at half-staff on the day that a service is held for a member of the military from Oregon in the Iraq War. Christensen, a member of the 1st Armored Division, served in the Oregon Na- tional Guard, then went onto active duty after “9/11.” His M-1 tank struck a roadside explosive device, according to a report.
