(Photos by Crystal Schroeter) Oregon’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in October was 7.2 percent, essentially unchanged from September’s 7.3 percent rate, said Oregon Employ- ment Dept. (OED). Oregon’s rate has been close to this level for the past three months, with Au- gust’s rate at 7.4 percent. The October rate is below the October 2003 rate of 7.9 percent, said OED. Seasonally adjusted payroll employment de- clined by 3,200 in October, following a gain of 2,500 (as revised) in September. In October, 117,869 Oregonians were unem- ployed compared with 120,011 in September. The number of unemployed Ore- gonians has decreased dur- ing the past year, when 132,090 Oregonians were unemployed in October 2003, said OED. At the national level, the U.S. unemployment rate was essentially unchanged during the month, at 5.5 percent in October, com- pared with 5.4 percent in September.
