Page 13 Illinois Valley News, Cave Junction, OR Wednesday, November 24, 2004 Healthy ‘Changes’ in lives goal of new CJ business Those searching for “wholeness” can explore that goal and how to reach it with Kay Ekwall. She’s opened a new business in Cave Junction -- Changes. It’s located at 202 W. Lister St., upstairs at the Valley Chiropractic site. Ekwall first became interested in healing and aiding others through vari- ous techniques in 1978. “Sometimes we come to a point in our lives that is confusing to us, and to our families and friends,” she said. “We don’t know who to reach out to for help. “We may become de- pressed, angry and fearful without any apparent rea- son. We may feel like we just don’t fit ‘who’ we thought we were. And that, in itself, is uncomfortable. “Those at a point in their lives where they feel the need for an outside opin- ion, or some kind of help, might find that I can be of assistance,” said Ekwall. “Perhaps,” she said, “I can help them find their path and peace.” Initial consultations are free, and her work is “totally confidential and private.” She is available at her office Tuesdays and Thurs- days from noon to approxi- mately 6 p.m. Her payments (Continued from Page 12) as to whom the dumper might be. *A driver was warned for a defective headlight, and failure to carry current proof of insurance. *Anthony M. Herman, 48, was cited on a charge of no operator’s permit and warned for speeding on S. Old Stage Road. Saturday, Nov. 13 *The owner of a vehicle found spun out and off the road in the 200 block of Hol- land Loop was contacted to retrieve the car. *All was reported “fine” at a business in CJ after an alarm sounded at noon. *“Three local transients” were contacted after someone complained about their “drinking and urinating” on a lot in the 400 block of S Red- wood Hwy. at 1:40 p.m. *Urinating, defecating, and harassing customers, transients were again causing problems, a businessman complained. He was advised of sheriff’s office staffing issues, and the transients were gone before a deputy’s arri- val. *Some 100 pounds of meat and other food were reported taken from a locked shed on White Schoolhouse Road. *Christopher J. Hall, 50, was cited to appear on a charge of DWS, and warned for failure to signal on Deer Creek Road around 7 p.m. *No one could be found in the vicinity of the public telephones near Oregon Caves Chevron after a mum- bled, 911 hang-up call around quarter after 7 p.m. *Several drivers were warned for speeding on Red- wood Hwy. between 8 and 9 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14 *Dennis E. Sims, 42, was cited on a charge of DWS and warned for an obstructed (mud-covered) license plate when stopped on Redwood Hwy. around quarter to 1 a.m. *Brent E. Benschoter, 34, was arrested on charges of DUII and possession of a controlled substance (PCS) less than an ounce of mari- juana, following a traffic stop on Lone Mountain Road. He was also cited on charges of DWS and careless driving. *Extra patrol was con- ducted in Downtown CJ. *Batteries were removed KAY EKWALL are on a donation basis. She can be contacted at 592-6431 or 592-6652. Her business includes intuitive energy work, coun- seling, Chakra balancing, crystal lay-out, grid realign- ment, healthy products, past life clearing, vibration re- search, and weight loss re- search and guidance. In addition, she offers sonic boom for plants, as from trucks behind a business in CJ, according to a woman. *A woman on Hanby Lane reported that her vehicle was stolen from the carport with a digital camera and wallet inside. *Drivers were speeding up and down the road on a property nearby, a woman on Norman Road complained around 3 p.m. *On W. Lister Street, a woman said that her mother barged into her home and refused to leave. *The neighbor kid was driving really fast and nearly rear-ended her, a woman on Garner Road complained *Near the end of Burch Drive, loud partiers were yell- ing and firing guns, a man reported around 7 p.m. Be- cause the road going down to the bridge was impassibly flooded, a deputy could not locate yelling or gunshots. *A deputy was unable to locate a man known to dial 911, mumbling and muttering into the phone, when such a call was received from a pub- lic telephone near Joe’s Mar- ket in Kerby. *Believing the woman had “mental issues,” a man on Ollis Road asked that a deputy come remove the woman who showed up at his residence two hours before. well as classes, workshops and training. A woman with many interests, Ekwall said that besides her intuitive work and related endeavors, she is a photographer, artist and poet. She builds Websites, and she’s working on a chil- dren’s book. In connection with help- ing others, she offers infor- mation about a new device from VIBE Technologies. VIBE stands for vibrational intergration biophotonic energizer. The machine con- sists of technologies based on the theories of Lak- hovsky, Tesla, Rife and Clark. It “increases the cellular frequency amplitude back to its ‘original’ healthy state.” Another item Ekwall is interested in is the BioElec- tric Shield. It “protects peo- ple from electromagnetic radiation; shields the wearer from other people’s negative energy; and strengthens and balances the wearer’s physi- cal, mental, emotional and spiritual energies.” Such shields are avail- able for children, pets and rooms, as well as adults. Recently, she’s become affiliated with Juice Plus, “another step in helping people get healthy.” And besides all that, Ekwall and her partner, Al- len Heart, who makes dream catchers, are supporters of the Liberty Dollar plan. The idea, she said, is to use such inflation-proof currency instead of the current U.S. currency, which is not “real money” because it’s not backed by gold or silver. The one-ounce silver coins are available from Ekwall at Changes. Using various tech- niques, Ekwall said, she has helped many people through the years. She attributes any success to God, noting that she is simply an instrument. In addition to studying for many years the tech- niques she uses to help peo- ple, Ekwall uses her own God-given intuition. She has a degree in art from Hum- boldt State University at Eureka/Arcata, Calif. and has taught the subject. She also has studied psychology. Ekwell notes that she is a “work in progress” ready and willing to assist others. ODOT spanning gap to fix state’s many aging bridges The Oregon Dept. of Transportation’s $1.3 billion OTIA III State Bridge De- livery Program is off to a solid start. Twenty-seven state highway bridges are under construction, with 100 more to come on Interstate 5 and Interstate 84 during the next few years. *Construction work valued at $66 million is un- der way, with replacement or repair of 27 bridges along I-5, U.S. 20, U.S. 26, and U.S. 97. *Work will start next spring on approximately 20 bridges along the I-5 corri- dor in the south Willamette Valley and Southwestern Oregon. *Approximately 100 bridges on I-84 and I-5 from Portland to Eugene, worth more than $350 million, will be built during 2005-2010. The first work will be bridge repairs during 2005. Design work is under way, with more design con- tracts to start early next year. *Work on approxi- mately 220 bridges along southern I-5 and state high- ways throughout Oregon will start in 2007. OTIA III, the 2003 Ore- gon Transportation Invest- ment Act, uses revenues from increased motor vehi- cle and trucking fees to fi- nance $2.46 billion in trans- portation projects. It builds on OTIA I and II, providing a combined $500 million for projects statewide. During the next eight to 10 years, several hundred state-owned bridges on ma- jor freight routes throughout Oregon will be repaired or replaced, supporting an esti- mated 5,000 jobs per year for local workers, contrac- tors, and communities, ODOT said. “The need is undeni- able,” said Heather Catron, ODOT’s OTIA III bridge delivery program manager. “Oregon has aging bridges on every state high- way in the system,” she said. “Most of these critical bridges were built almost 50 years ago and are close to exceeding their lifespans.” For each project, ODOT said that it is promoting en- vironmental stewardship, controlling costs, supporting economic diversity, protect- ing community and cultural values, and stimulating statewide economic growth. “To meet the program challenges and expectations, ODOT has entered a new world,” Catron said. “ODOT’s business model has changed funda- mentally,” she said. “We are shifting from handling functions like de- sign and project administra- tion ourselves to doing them with the aid of the private sector. “In the process, we are changing the organization dramatically. ODOT is mak- ing an historic shift from an agency that produces engi- neering designs to one that manages the statewide trans- portation system,” she said. 30 years experience in water, sewer & pipeline construction, brush clearing, septic installation & utility line trenching MANSFIELD R.
