Check the ad on page 10 City joins intergovernmental waste agency By MICHELLE BINKER Staff Writer Cave Junction city councilmen were talking trash during their meeting on Monday night, Aug. 9 in city hall. Councilmen voted 5-0 to join Josephine County and the city of Grants Pass as a partner in an Intergov- ernmental Solid Waste Agency, and approved a solid-waste franchise agreement with Southern Oregon Sanitation Inc. SOS customers likely will see a rate increase of one dollar or so in the coming months, said Jim Polk, Cave Junction city recorder. The city anticipates making almost $10,000 per year in franchise fees from the agreement, which al- lows the city to collect fees for collection service. As a partner in the solid waste agency, the city will have a voice on the board, which provides oversight, administration, regulation and allocation of solid waste collection resources. Next Bluegrass Fest planned as two-day event Because of the success of the inaugural Siskiyou Bluegrass Festival on July 31, sponsored by Illinois Valley Chamber of Com- merce, the plan is to ex- tend the second annual event to two days. Chamber directors agreed to that plan during their meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 10 at Wild River Brewing & Pizza Co. Festival Chairman Pam Cooper said that nearly 500 people at- tended. Next year’s event also will be at Lake Selmac, but in a larger area. Cooper was lauded for her work.
