Page 4 Good Shepherd Lutheran Sunday’s lesson told of Jesus and his disciples and a time they wanted to be away from crowds of people. They tried going across a lake to get away. But when Jesus saw how much the people needed to hear his words, he would not let his disciples send them away. Rather, he ministered to them, just as he does to us today. Church activities this week include worship at 9 a.m. on Sunday, July 27. Community Bible Church Minister Duane De Gravel gave an exciting Shirley Langdon Castro Shirley Langdon Cas- tro, 89, of Salem died on Sunday, July 13, 2003. Mrs. Castro was born on May 13, 1914 in Alameda, Calif. She and her husband, Joe, grew up and lived in the California Bay Area, retiring to Cave Junction in 1972. She was a Christian and enthusiastic member of Illinois Valley Garden Club. She helped to establish Illinois Valley Friends of the Library, and volun- teered at Illinois Valley elementary schools where she was known to the chil- dren for 20 years as “Mrs. Piggle Wiggle” after the storybook character. After moving to Grants Pass in 1992, she continued to read for ele- mentary schools, volun- teered at the Josephine County Courthouse, pro- vided flowers for the re- ception areas of Josephine County Juvenile Dept. and the Grants Pass Library. She provided library books to convalescent homes and the housebound seniors until she moved from her home in 2000. Survivors include Sharon Crutcher of Liver- more, Calif. and Charles Castro and Laurel Shaw of Silverton, Ore. She was preceded in death by her husband Joe in 1994. Books may be checked out and a collection of re- source materials is avail- able for on-site research. The library is also equipped with two com- puters for public use in accessing approved health related Internet sites. The library is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The trouble with the rat race is that even if you win, you’re still a rat. -Lilly Tomlin- Illinois Valley News, Cave Junction, OR Wednesday, July 23, 2003 and strengthening message on Sunday, July 20. The story is about Je- sus feeding 5,000 people with five barley loaves and two fish. Then after everyone had eaten as much as they wanted, the disciples col- lected the fragments which filled 12 wicker baskets. A miracle, yes, and only one of many that would take place while Jesus was on earth. Thus, we can be as- sured that the Lord will provide all we need.
