Page 8 I.V. Airport board holds special meet By SAM NEWTON A budgetary request from the Josephine County com- missioners for a proposal on the current Airport Layout Plan (ALP) and general im- provements spurred a special Illinois Valley Airport Advi- sory Board meeting on Mon- day evening, Feb. 17 at Illi- nois Valley Airport. A workshop held on Feb. 3 was attended by the com- missioners, Federal Aviation Administration, Oregon Dept. of Aviation, I.V. Community Response Team, advisory board members and I.V. Air- port Support Group (IVASG). It was agreed that a subcom- mittee, suggested by Commis- sioner Jim Brock to look into the possibility of changing the ALP, is unnecessary. Commissioner Harold Haugen stated that he wanted a proposal right away and did- n’t want to wait for a subcom- mittee to make a decision be- fore completing budget plans. IVASG submitted an al- ternative proposal for consid- eration outlining the possibil- ity of returning the I.V. Air- port to its previous designa- tion of Airport Approach Category (ARC) B and Air- plane Design Group II and Far Part 77 category of “Utility” while maintaining the building restriction line (BRL) on new construction at 390 feet as a Josephine County Illinois Val- ley Airport Policy. (The ARC B-II represents small and me- dium-size business aircraft such as twin-engine turbo- props.) The “utility runway” category would accommodate aircraft weighing less than 12,500 pounds.) After much discussion and with some dissension the board approved the decision to investigate the possibility of changing the existing ALP. A proposal will be sub- mitted to the commissioners for budgetary consideration. The board also elected Don McLennan as chairman; Lou Levison as co-chairman; and Alan Jensen as secretary. The next meeting will be held on Thursday, March 20 at 5 p.m. at the airport. Elementary Schools Menu Sponsored by ‘Illinois Valley News’ 321 S.
