Anyone inter- ested in volunteering can phone 592-5252. Winter hours for the museum are Sunday - noon to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday - Closed, except by appointment and Saturday - 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. *IVHS HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT - IVHS will host a holiday tournament Friday and Saturday, Dec. 13 and 14. The scheduled game times and schools competing on Satur- day are Glide girls vs. Gold Beach girls - 2 p.m.; Glide boys vs. Gold Beach boys - 4 p.m.; Cascade Christian girls vs. IVHS girls - 6 p.m. and Cascade Christian boys vs. IVHS boys - 7:30 p.m. Sunday games times will be: consolation bracket - 2 and 4 p.m. and championship bracket - 6 and 7:30 p.m. Admission for the tournament is $4 for adults and $2 for students. *CAVE JUNCTION CARES - Lynn Boucher and Cave Junction Cares crew is gearing up for their annual Christmas Day dinner. The ad in the Dec. 4 ‘Noose’ showed the dates of Dec. 13 and 20. *SAFEHOUSE TRAINING - Due to larger than ex- pected enrollment the location the Illinois Valley Safehouse Alliance outreach effort on Saturday, Dec. 14 from 2 to 5 p.m. has been changed and will be held to the county build- ing in Downtown Cave Junction. For more information phone Leeandra Brocker at 592-4147. *‘FREEING’ PRISONERS - Life Lines, a valley- based prison outreach ministry, will hold a Christmas sale of craft items and goodies on Saturday, Dec.14 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. It’ll be at the home of Doug and Joy Hoskins, 349 Caves Hwy., next to Pietro’s Italian Restaurant. There also will be ministry tours, showing the Christian work that is conducted. *CHRISTMAS BASKETS - There are plans again to have Christmas baskets for needy Illinois Valley senior citi- zens. Baskets will be given away at the I.V. Visitor Center in the I.V. Chamber office approximately a week before Dec. 25. Donations of food and money are sought, but no home-canned items. Monetary donations will be used to purchase fresh food and a gift certificate for each basket. For details, phone Melva Nichols, chamber secretary emeri- tus, at 592-3548, right away. Last year, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program in the valley provided more than 70 sen- iors with food, said Nichols. She plans to have a new office with RSVP fairly soon, and plans a monthly newsletters *CHAMBER OF COMMERCE - Illinois Valley Chamber of Commerce will be holding their Annual Auc- tion Fund Raiser on Friday, Jan. 10. This will be the Cham- bers first “Mixer” of the new year. *CLEAN THE CUTS - Volunteers are sought for a trash removal party from BLM land at the end of Fernwood Drive on Saturday, Dec. 14 beginning at 10 a.m. Members of I.V. High groups, including FFA and 4-H, are encouraged by the sponsor to participate. (Erma Bombeck) CAROLYN UNDERHILL Underhill art displayed at I.V.s Klamath First Bank By CASSANDRA NEWTON-MILLER Carolyn Underhill of Cave Junction is Illinois Valley Art- ist’s, Inc., featured artist for December. Underhill has her work on display at Klamath First in Cave Junction; Some quick sketches done in a “life study” workshop at a recent meeting of the art group. Artists were given the opportunity to sketch with a live model for several sessions. The pieces were the result of approxi- mately one hour each of quick sketching with pencil and wa- tercolors. Before her nearly twenty years of residence in Illinois Valley, Underhill lived in California. She was born and raised in Southern Cal., and went to College in Davis, ma- joring in animal husbandry. From there, she went overseas to teach school for the Dept. of Defense in Ger- many and Turkey. After re- turning to Los Angeles, she graduated form the University of Southern Calif., majoring in education, then transferring to Berkley. She taught primary school until retirement, returned to Southern Calif. in Ojai where she began work with La Man- cha Goats. While in Southern Calif., Underhill took part in a USC sponsored artists program called I.S.O.M.A.T.A., where she studied sculpture and drawing. She has been the recipient of awards from several art shows and fairs, and enjoys working in watercolor, carv- ing and painting gourds, and frequently sculps in clay and soapstone. The Illinois Valley Fine Artists, Inc., meet every Mon- day at the RCC Belt Bldg. in Kerby from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Members work on indi- vidual projects. The public or interested artists can attend. There is presently a 6- week watercolor workshop being led by artist, instructor, Debbie Dawson, who recently moved to the valley from Medford. A brief drawing class is being offered by member, Cassandra Newton-Miller, just previous to and in conjunction with the watercolor program. Many members are participat- ing in both programs. The “Draft 2004-2007 Statewide Transportation Im- provement Program” (STIP) is ready for public viewing and comment. “Citizens may view the new STIP document at public libraries, city and county main offices, and at ODOT regional offices,” said Jill Vosper, S t a te w id e ST IP D e v e l o p m e n t m a n a ge r . “People may also see it online or download a copy to a com- puter,” she said. Bridges, preservation, and modernization projects pro- posed for 2006 and 2007 were evaluated for consistency with Interim Project Eligibility Cri- teria and Prioritizing Factors adopted by the Oregon Trans- portation Commission in April 2002. Information on the In- terim Criteria begins on page 255 of the draft. The list of projects using them starts on page 262. “Individual project sum- maries and maps are also available on the department’s STIP web site at www.odot.state.or.us/STIP, and paper copies are also available,” Vosper said. Public comment on the Draft STIP will be received through December.
